On my way leaving BJs the other night I overhead a lady saying that she needed to pick up Doritos protein chips. Since I was leaving, I didn't go back to look. But I've been looking at all my local grocery stores and nothing.... I came to the conclusion that the lady must have meant Quest nacho chips and just used the word Doritos to her companion. I had given up my search....

Well, I was at Wally World this morning and found these in a kiosk. I wish the fiber was a little more and I can't vouch for the taste, but I found them!

I usually make a copy cat Nachos Bell Grande with chips like these. Sometimes I use actual Doritos and just limit how many I use. But if these taste any good, the extra protein would be well worth it.

Let us know on taste.

Let us know on taste.

Yesterday afternoon my assistant was raving about how good the nacho cheese version was (or at least that's the bag she showed me). The bag she showed me wasn't open, so I didn't try them.

I was figuring that since the chips are Doritos brand that they'd probably taste really good, so not surprised your assistant would rave about them. I might have to crack one of the bags open this afternoon.

Doritos (Frito-Lay) definitely has the money to do a lot of testing and development. When I eat Quest nacho chips, I like the first couple, then I'm like YUK and can't make my way through the bag.

Quest makes one too, and they’re pretty fire, they have higher protein content than the Doritos.

Yeah, the stores here are full of such things, even Costco has gone crazy with it.

Companies are out here handing out protein versions of their products like Oprah. You get protein! Everyone gets protein!
I'm a fan of it. Americans need more protein. The more of this stuff that gets developed, marketed, sold... the more we will get. I'm all in.
They don't have Cool Ranch protein Doritos... BAH. 😡
Easily the best flavor of Doritos. Maybe they couldn't make it taste good. I'm not sure if I'd rather wonder what it tastes like, or be disappointed.
I've had the Quest chips and they are okay. I'm hoping the Doritos taste better.
Quest chips do not register as food to me. I can choke them down anyway, but I don't buy them anymore. It's the same feeling as putting napkins in your pocket.

Oh em gee.. need to figure out where I can find these. I guarantee we don’t have them in Canada 😭

Everyone wants a slice of the weight loss drug business. When manufacturers add "Protein" on their food packaging I'm sure they get a boost in sales.
That's true. I'm working for a dairy company as a salesman. We used to have a cheese brand which was a "lighter" line. Didn't sell well lately. Big brains from marketing rebranded "lighter" to "high protein". Exactly the same cheese, in a different package and name on it. Sells much better now 😆 It's a strong trend now...same as "light" years ago, "zero", " keto" etc...nothing else but marketing.

We went from low-fat to low-carb and now to now high protien which is the first one to actually make sense. But, overall, I hate the protien in everything craze. Most of the ultra-processed junk with protien on the label has a meaningless amount of protien, often barely more than the original product. That said, the macros on those chips are not half bad. 10mg of protien for 150 calories would be a lousy protien bar, but it is pretty decent for a chip

The numbers make the price worth it compared to Doritos. Also the Salsa Verde flavor slaps. If Doritos do it for you im sure it's like McDonald's or Coke or Kool cigarettes... its your addiction and nothing is the same

I read a couple years ago, these food companies/ conglomerates met with GPL Pharma companies bc they were concerned about their profit margins with folks on these meds. They decided to get in the game quickly with the protein need.
That said, I never liked Doritos, but I hear they can flame a fire quickly for smores.👍

They were handing out some protein snacks in Costco last time my wife and I were in there and they had a little sign '30G protein!'. My wife asked to try one and me, of course, being the smartass that I am said 'let me see that bag'. So I turned it around to the back and started perusing the 50+ things in the ingredient list that you can't pronounce and said 'why is all of this stuff in there?'. My wife poked me and said 'stop that'. There were at least 3 seed oils in it and the rest of the stuff, no one except a chemist knows what any of it is. But, I digress, it's FDA approved so must be OK.

It’s like when gluten free started, juice would say it was gluten free, food no one ever thought had gluten said it had no gluten. Wild stuff. It feeds my pessimist side, I always know to pay attention to how something is said or worded, instead of the words.

Yeah, It is not real food, whole food.

It is fake food -- Processed junk, engineered for people to crave and buy more.

So what is the "protein?" Hooves and toenails?
My protein Doritos have a bacon, onion, green chili, and cheese omelet underneath them.
I swear, I could put these on a stick and make a killing at carnivals. 👍
