More like Peri is keeping me round. 😭 I’m fighting to get healthy after a decade of elder caregiving and self neglect. Seeing the scale inching toward 300 lbs put a fire under me to do something. Unfortunately, my efforts are being thwarted by Peri related hormone changes.

I’ve been ā€œcurvyā€ since I was a kid, and had a family where being big and eating big was normalized. As a teen I read some magazines and learned what calories were and developed an eating disorder and a smoking habit which kept me thin through college. I had to go back to take care of my mom when she got sick, so I fell back into old habits and depression and well, here I am many years later, finally able to focus on my own health.

My doc fixed my vitamin levels and put me on a GLP-1, but insurance wasn’t satisfied with the pace of my losses. Switched to a new one and ran headfirst into supply issues. This discouraged me a lot so I gave up for a couple of years. Then I learned about grey last Fall, got back on the wagon, and had some success but have not been losing nearly the amount I should be at my size and deficit. I made an appointment with a Menopause specialist on the advice of friends and am hoping HRT will help. I’m also looking into mitochondrial function and strength training.

So that’s me. 6ish months in and 20 lbs down, 100ish to go.

PeriM and being a caregiver can be very difficult when trying to take care of yourself and lose weight. Especially, the high cortisol rushes and lack of sleep. I'm happy that you had a good headstart and have a good plan in place. Welcome and good luck to you on you journey!
