I'm looking to use a syringe with a shorter needle, similar to what you get on a pen- 3/4/5mm etc. They do exist, however I'm unsure what the minimum length a needle needs be in order to pierce through the cap to draw up your dose. On a pen you are obviously not drawing up with that needle so it doesn't matter, but on a syringe it does. Is anyone aware of the thickness of the caps on the compounds (and Bac water as well) ? What is the shortest one could get away with while still being able to draw up?

The rubber stopper isn’t very thick, usually less than 5mm. I can tell this from experience—when withdrawing the liquid, I often need to pull the needle out slightly so I can draw up all the liquid.

You look like a new member so I assume you're not doing that for long yet? When you draw from a vial you're gonna know how thick it is, just experiment since you won't have a needle that's too short for it anyway

Previously I had name brand pens, so I didn't / haven't messed with any of that yet. I'm looking to buy syringes for my incoming peps and prefer to buy a length that can be long enough to draw up, but short-ish for injecting (similar to pens) . I probably need to go with 6mm to be on the safe side it seems

My compounding pharma got me started on EasyTouch 31G 1ml, 5/16 (8mm) long, also called u-100 insulin syringes. I never feel the needle going in, and goes thru all the bac, and pep stoppers without issues. Walmart $20 for 100. I have not used anything shorter. 8mm is not that long when pinning with 45 degree angle into fat. I cut a bac stopper in two: 3mm thick in dead center. That center diameter sweet spot is 3mm wide. Poke a bit off center and is now 5mm thick as the center of the stopper is shaped like a cone to give the stopper strength. see picture.

If you prefer pens, you can just buy an empty pen and fill it yourself, too.
I started out looking at those pens intending to go that route, but I did not like the extra steps involved / possible errors / issues. I'm sure it's completely easy to fill them and fine , but for my own sake I want the most simple option. I also only have one shot per week. If it was more I would lean pen

Awesome information and checking the stopper too! I greatly appreciate this!

There are no extra steps if you plan on filtering anyways (and you should)

I've been doing this a few months and only just got pens this morning for if I ever have to pin away from home again, I understand! I find it intimidating too. I've been fine with insulin syringes until now. :)

I will say- I had to get over a needle phobia to do this, and the 5/16 needles work just fine for me. I barely feel them.

Nice data, note that not all stoppers are the same though.

I'm fine with the 5/16th needles. (I use 29g 1/2 for my trt) but the 4mm 32g are really nice for peptides.

ADW Diabetes sells these: BD Veo Syringes, 31g, 1cc, 6mm. (https://www.adwdiabetes.com/product/7565/bd-ultra-fine-syringes-31g-1cc-6mm-90ct)

They're a 6mm needle, but strangely come in boxes of 90. They're not the cheapest at almost $30 for the 90, but if you're looking for a short needled syringe, this would be one 👍. I've used them, there's not much difference between a 6mm and the 8mm.

I haven't had any problem puncturing the vial and drawing a dose with them, as long as you hit somewhere around the middle of the stopper. That said, I'm probably going back to the regular 8mm syringes due to the price difference from being able to buy the 8mm's from Sam's Club.

Crazy enough I actually saw those before posting, good to know they work well, I will probably go with those! Thank you

Ended up going with these I came across:

31G, 5mm, box of 100, after shipping $25. Seems like a length that should reach through any stopper, while being short like a pen, a little shorter than the BD and not much more expensive than the standard 8mm EasyTouch option

Subq for trt?

Thanks for the heads up on the 4mm needles. I’m moving from obese to overweight and less fat thickness merits a shorter needle for pinning at 90 degrees.
