Slow pooping due to slower gastric emptying is bad?

Saw this article on slow 💩 and a link to possible health issues. GLPs cause slower gastic emptying and was wondering what the good people on the forum thought about this.

From the article:
"Slow transit times and constipation have been linked with metabolic and inflammatory disorders, as well as neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease."

 
Lots of things can cause both slowed gastric emptying and all the other disorders mentioned above. Migraines, for example, would fit this bill. Sorry for TMI but my migraines have always been accompanied by 2-3 days of gastroparesis, and migraines are also linked to Parkinson's and inflammatory disorders.

Also a bad diet with large amounts of red meat and low amounts of fiber would also cause slower gastric emptying as well as all those other things you mentioned. So hopefully it's a case of correlation and not causation.

Makes total sense, and I fully agree. That’s why one of my mantras is “Fiber, water! Fiber, water! Fiber, water!” We don’t want feces chillin’ inside, no bueno.
 
As part of my weight loss regimen I am trying to eat more salads. Vegetables like tomatoes and cucumbers are full of water and fiber and will help to keep your digestive tract functioning. It’s I have also tried fiber supplements and found that they work but not as well as green salads.
 
To clarify about gut transit, glps slow gastric emptying but tends to speed up intestinal motility in more people.
 
My take is other issues/diseases/syndromes cause delayed gastric emptying.
GLP cause delayed gastric emptying.
That doesn't equal GLP cause the other issues, diseases, or syndromes.

GLP causes weight loss
Cancer causes weight loss
Parasites cause weight loss

GLP does not cause cancer or parasites (in general).

Yes, the article is about bowel movement frequency and not gastric emptying. Two different phenomena. Although constipation was equally as frequent as diarrhea in SURMOUNT, especially at low doses.

But, I agree with the premise of the article. I don’t think it’s good to be full of shit. Either figuratively or physically.
 
Anyone know a good way to get a large amount of fiber in daily without having to consume a lot of fiber rich foods? The only supplements I've found have super small amounts of fiber

No one is making the claim that having slow digestion CAUSES the inflammation they are only saying that the two things frequently occur together.
 
thank you for the recommendation! You think the capsule version would reduce absorption or would it not matter? If I can mask the taste with a capsule then I'd go that route
Idk if it would reduce absorption but it certainly would be a lot more expensive. I eat a lot of it (like probably 2 tablespoons a day) so that's why I prefer the raw husks. If you don't have preexisting digestive issues you might not need that much and the capsules might be perfectly fine for you.

There's barely any taste, it's mostly the texture that bothers people. When you add water to it it becomes kinda....slimy/gummy? Some people chug it down like a shot. I usually mix it into my soup/smoothie/oatmeal and it doesn't bother me too much. Either way, capsule or not, just make sure to drink a good amount of liquid with it.

I use psyllium husks by NOW and it works well for me.

I’m sure it is the same as the other one recommended to you but it’s a little less expensive. I also add chia seeds to my daily smoothie from Costco for healthy fats and fiber. And my third go to source for fiber are carb smart tortillas or breads because they usually have extra fiber added.

You took the words out of my mouth.
I have approx 30g of fibre each day and drink sooo much water that I feel I spend half the day peeing 🤣
 
Having residual symptoms from ulcerative colitis in "remission" or IBS-D, the slowing effect of GLP's on gut transit were appreciated by me, definitely reduced the D part of IBS.

I'm from Australia so this isn't something you can obtain from this company easily, but I'm taking Bulk Nutrients Tri-Fibre+

I mix it in with my electrolyte supp and it helps move things along, if you can find something like this via your local supplement stores then i would suggest doing so.

Not a bad idea to check with the supplement store here! Going to have to browse what they have tomorrow on my way back from the gym, thanks!
