FACK. You guys. it’s taken WEEKS to get this crypto thing together for my first gray purchase. Transferred several increments of $$$ to PayPal. Had to wait for them to clear for over a week. Purchased PYSUD. It was held for a week. Got exodus. Transferred $10 there. But couldn’t send a test to the vendor without buying $25 in eth for gas- which seems like a lot for a minimum when only sending one purchase... So I sent the test to the vendors wallet via PayPal crypto. Minutes later- account nuked. So they CAN work quickly when they want to! Locked forever.
Panicked and sold the remaining crypto since they wouldn’t let me send or transfer it out, and now all that money I saved for this purchase is just stuck in my PayPal! Has anyone had any success recovering from this? I’d appreciate any kind or supportive words. I know that the screwup was not putting it all in exodus and just biting the bullet… now. But didn't think a small test send would signal the alarms. I was so excited I was finally so close to getting this purchase done and now I’m gutted and scared to have to start over again. 😭😭 please help.

Thanks. I have some funds sitting in Venmo. Is that an option? Am I not allowed to use PYUSD anymore? I’ve been scared of BTC bc of the volatility but I’d really love just to get this done asap.

I hate the Paypal delays. Shouldn't be any restrictions on you sending that PYUSD over to Exodus.
Okay. It says cannot complete when I tried to send it to myself but it’s likely just holding it right? I should be okay to purchase it in Venmo and send to exodus? Thanks for your patience. This has been really frustrating. !scratch that! now Venmo isn’t letting me buy pyusd either. Hoping it’s just a lag hold since it bought and then sold the same amount earlier when I couldn’t get it to transfer and it will work after a while- and that I’m not totally locked out since Venmo is owned by PayPal … 🫩😩

I lost my 25 year old PayPal account on Monday from a purchase in March. Now I'm learning Exodus. Thought people were just being paranoid, didn't think it would happen for my first ever PYUSD transfer.

Same. Except mine never even went through. They locked my whole account.

My PayPal was forever banned and they are keeping my funds for six months. I am seriously considering leaving Venmo as well, but it does have a convenience factor. It seems to me that they would protect customers and not ban them. Something like you just tried to transfer money to somebody you’re not allowed to. I guess they don’t want customers who don’t read all of their fine print. I mean who tries to tell you where you can send your crypto? The whole point with crypto is that it’s not traceable and it seems to me like it’s the most traceable thing on the planet right now. 😂

Ain’t that the truth?????

I do use PayPal in my crypto transactions - but only to deposit cash into my Coinbase account. It’s drawing from my PayPal balance first, then my bank account when I zero out PP. From there I purchase my crypto in Coinbase and transfer what I need for vendor payments to Exodus. All my potentially taxable events are in Coinbase, they send me an electronic 1099DA at tax time. Vendor payments are somewhat obscured using the cold wallet. PayPal doesn’t see any transactions that cause them to freeze my account.

Nothing will ever be truly untraceable again since the infancy of crypto when people were doing P2P direct transfers. Now there’s always a trail.

Same here. Can’t get any of the money I saved for this purchase back until November. 😩 I’ve also got some funds in Venmo so I’m hoping it also doesn’t get shutdown since it’s also owned by PayPal! It already won’t let me buy any today after I bought and sold trying to figure it out.
Yeah well … who knew they’d send out the guards and lose my entire account over $10!

You can buy/send directly from exodus with credit debit card. Half the time they redirect to moonpay where they get id, facial video recognition and dick picks.... other times comes right off my debit card. But SEND from exodus.....its decentralized and noone can freeze your funds.

Unfortunately my account being banned means I can it use my PayPal for ANYTHING
Ugh! Just link your bank account to coinbase, buy USDC or USDT and send it to yourself from coinbase to exodus.
I had old bitcoin sitting in coinbase but didn't want to touch it so I just bought the amount I needed of USDC and USDT, sent to my exodus and was able to pay vendors both on Sol and Eth.
Good luck! I know how frustrating crypto is.

Years ago for aas we sent cash in the mail (CIM) or Western Union or Moneygram. Granted, you dont just send hundreds in a money envelope but rather a small box or something with pencil erasers or a pair of socks with ur 400...

My parents used to mail cash but in greeting cards. I always found it risky. I guess it isn't as risky as credit card fraud is nowadays.

I would recommend buying ETH in Venmo, then xfer to exodus and swap the majority of the ETH to USDC for stability. Eth is what you are going to want (obv can use btc or others) so just start with it to minimize exchanges/fees.

I’ve been scared of BTC bc of the volatility

BTC daily swings are usually less than 5%, and the fees are cheap right now. Just don't hold it for very long to protect against price changes.

Great question. The people telling you where you can send your crypto are the same people telling you where you can send your US dollars. The whole reason people use exodus or any of these wierd services is because USD transfer isn't an option for us. Trust me, the vendors would LOVE to just get USD cash from overseas, they would make it very easy if we did not have these rules in the US. The payment processors are beholden to the banks, and the banks are beholden to money and the government, and that's why paypal and coinbase etc will nuke you the moment you displease them.

Also, the "whole point" of crypto doesn't really exist. There are many reasons for it beyond psuedoanonymity. It is immutable, literally can't be shut down. It has no inflation. It is instant and weightless and useful in so many ways that cash isn't.

But BTC was not designed to be completely anonymous, and if you read Satoshi's paper he acknowledges the privacy concerns and makes suggestions to mitigate privacy risks.

The only crypto that is truly anonymous right now is XMR, which is why they are de-listing it everywhere. Eventually everyone will be using it, because these financial institutions are going to get so heavy handed that people completely opt out of their system.

Never ever ever send payment directly from any US banking institution - including online payment platforms & credit cards - to your CN connect. Always go through a 3rd party wallet (Exodus or similar).

Heard. I had done all the research and guess I was just so excited my funds finally showed up I was just ready to try it out. RIP my PayPal.

I buy directly in Exodus. Why would you buy in coinbase and then transfer to exodus? Isn’t there a delay before you can send your crypto out if coinbase? But what advantage is it to not just buy directly in exodus?
Your accounts can be closed out if you get flagged for sending to shady wallets.

I have had it with PayPal. I have had my account since 2000 and I bought some PYUSD a while back. They held it for 10 days. When they finally released it I transferred it to Coinbase, an account I've had for a year and I swapped it for USDC and bought more instantaneous. Same with Robinhood. They let me buy stock before the money transfer to my account even clears my bank. I don't even trust PayPal anymore, tbh.

Good idea! Open to this but a little intimidated by the conversion. If I buy a certain amount of money in eth from Venmo - it then turns into a different … decimal…number… that I would then send to exodus… and then convert it back into usdc for the amount of money I need it to be … to just pay this freakin vendor already?
