Hair Loss on Tirzeptide?

Has anyone experienced hair loss on Tirzeptide? 60yr old male, full head of hair. Started noticing the shower screen having a good bit of hair in it.

Did a bit of reading and what I found said it's not a side effect of the Tirz, but of the poor diet that being on Tirz can cause. But my diet is actually pretty good, I try for 90+ grams of protein a day, and a lot of veggies. Fish, chicken, occasional beef, fresh greens (broccoli, snap peas, celery, mushrooms, salads).

The hair loss mostly was noticed when home from deployment. My diet at home is much less restricted, and my calorie count has been over 1,000/day. I did lose weight pretty aggressively while I was away, maybe 800cal/day and 40lbs in 3 months.

I've been taking GHK-Cu due to the sagging skin on my neck (SQ as well as cream applied after micro-needling). GHK-Cu is supposed to help hair growth, so that doesn't make sense that with what I'm experiencing. The timing of starting GHK-Cu lines up exactly with the first noticing the hair loss, but I don't have a shower screen to notice the hair collecting when away. So it may have been happening all along.

I don't actually notice any thinning of my hair. But the shower drain screen don't lie!

Anyone have similar issues, or thoughts on this?

Straight up need more protein & calories, it will come back but takes time. Hair & nails are the last thing to get protein in your body, especially while your losing weight. Have you noticed, if you're not cutting your fingernails as much?

I've been through this a couple times and learned my lesson, almost became Anemic the 1st time after weight loss surgery.
 
That is a pretty severe calorie deficit.

Even for a tiny woman, its not recommended to go below 1400 calories. My guess is you are eating way too few calories, which is causing the hair loss. You are starving yourself

Use a TDEE calculator and calculate your daily needs. You will find you should be eating quite a bit more.
 
It's possible that it's just an age-related thing, unrelated to dieting? Have you already tried Minoxidil and other standard hair loss drugs?

That being said, hair loss is a known side effect of rapid weight loss. I don't expect that the results would be permanent unless you're already genetically predisposed to balding. But if you want to be extra safe you can try eating slightly more and see if it helps.

I know lots of women who swear by stuff like biotin supplements, prenatal vitamins, etc. for hair growth. I haven't looked into it myself but just throwing out another idea.
 
New to peptides but have been super into haircare for years: do keep in mind that it's normal for most people to shed between 50 to 150 hairs per day! Seeing the shed vs it just washing down the drain definitely can be alarming though. If you're not noticing any actual appearance of thinning, I wouldn't be alarmed at this point, though others make good points on how low your calorie intake currently is.

A family member of mine was having this issue. A focus on more protein and use of minoxidil has worked wonders🙂 New hair growth where it was previously thinning.
 
Haven't noticed any thinning. I was definitely too aggressive on my early weight loss, pinning every 6 days, escalating dosages every 18 days, hour-long gym sessions every day, and too low of calorie intake.

It was just so exciting, after literally 40 years of struggling with a BMI in the high 30's to 40, to be finally making real progress!

I never went above 10mg Tirz/6d, and have only last week begun with a very low dosage of Cagrilintide (.5mg/6d offset by 3 days to the Tirz) stacked. Food noise/appetite is almost unbearable. I'm a classic eat when bored/stressed person. Too soon to tell if the Cag is having the desired effect.

I use a calorie counter app called LoseIt, it says I'm taking in about 1,000 to 1,200 calories a day now that I'm back home. I will say that I believe I tend to under-report my food when using it, and if I take in 1,600 calories a day I don't lose any weight. So I really can't go any higher than 1,200/d if I want any kind of progress.
 
Hair loss is no joke. I have that already and hence one of the ressons I haven't started the reta I bought. I was reading about AHK-Cu being more effective for hair than GHK- Cu which focuses more on skin. Good luck on your journey!
 
I'm at max tirz now, but over a year ago at maybe 5mg, yes, my hair started to fall out. At 63 strange enough, i have plenty. I chalked it up to weight loss. Not any particular drug. I've not tried anything to slow it down. It has slowed. So has my weight loss.
 
I don't think it's poor diet so much as rapid weight loss that does it, or so Ive read. It's a side effect of ANY rapid weight loss, happens with bariatric patients a lot. However, I read a lot of people who say it IS temporary.
 
The hair loss is due to not enough protein, that's it.
 
Quickly losing weight can cause hair to fall out. When I dropped 30lbs fairly quickly 15 years ago it came out in clumps, my diet was nutritious. Same for my mom under similar conditions. It freaked her out quite a bit. It grew back just fine once I stabilized weight.
 
I lost a lot of weight (40lbs) in a few months 4/5 years ago due to severe stress/depression causing me to mostly stop eating. I was overweight but not obese at the beginning. I didn't have any hair effects until a couple months after that weight loss but yeah, I lost like 75% of my hair in 5 months time. I was 28, female. It's come back but it took 2 years and a few medications.

Two thoughts from reading your post. You said you're only noticing hair loss after returning home in your showers screen. Could that be because wherever you were showing at away from home didn't have a drain hair catcher? (Edit: Sorry I missed a paragraph in you post, went back and read that you a mentioned this...anyways if you're not noticing actual thinning via looks/touch, it's probably what you've been naturally shedding the whole time and therefore normal)
My second thought was if* you are actually losing excessive amounts of hair that will lead to thinning, it likely is from the prior weightloss you described and now catching up to you, as I experienced, rather than tirz itself. I firmly believe any hair loss associated with tirz is a result of the weak diets/weighloss draining the body of its stores of vital nutrients rather than the tirz itself. But you could argue that without the tirz, you wouldn't have the diet changes/weighloss to trigger the hairloss so they're still tied together. My point is it is controllable/avoidable and not just a given that we have to accept when using tirz.

Right, I don't have a drain catcher when away. Typically gone 3 mo's at a time, then home 3 mo's.

I had the drain catcher at home before, and prior to this dieting never had significant hair caught, but always noticed my wife's, so I was paying attention and it's definitely since beginning the diet.

I have to admit, now 4 months into the Tirz experiment, I AM beginning to notice the thinning of my hair. Just doesn't feel as full as before. I have stopped the crazy low food intake; scanning thru my LoseIt app, I see I'm eating 1100-1200 calories a day now, which is 50% more than when I was losing the weight rapidly back in Dec/Jan.

Honestly, if I go much above 1200 calories a day, the weight loss stops. I think I have done a good job of training my body to survive on 1500 cal/day after 40+ years of "dieting".

There are other possible factors. Last 2 months have been pinning GHK-Cu daily, and in the past month Wolverine. About to start VIP due to blood pressure control issues.

What exactly am I missing from my diet to prevent further hair loss? I eat something close to 100g protein a day (mostly chicken or fish, occasionally beef). I can't do the protein shakes. When I drink one I stall the diet. Saw this repeatedly when away last time. I eat a good bit of veggies, too. Broccoli, cauliflower, salads, snap peas, Brussels sprouts, asparagus.
 
It sounds like you have a balanced diet. But, you might have to increase your protein intake. 100g daily is a little light depending on your goal, I think. I know for adults over 50, they recommend 1.6+/kg. Maybe legumes or some other protein dense veggie on the side with your main protein?

For women, it’s more common to add oral minoxidil or topical minoxidil to prevent hair loss during weight loss. But, men also benefit from minoxidil or finasteride. You mention blood pressure control issues, so obviously need to discuss with your provider before hopping on anything.
 
I already had thin/thinning hair before starting tirz, I read up on the dread shed that most experience (scared the crap out of me). I started oral minoxidil before beginning the Tirz due to this. I can't afford to lose much more. The oral minoxidil did prevent shedding. I will continue taking it forever in hopes to regain some growth and volume.
 
Like others have said, the most likely case is your diet, i.e. lack of nutrients. From personal experience, one of the main reasons behind hair loss is a lack of irons would highly recommend getting your bloods done if you haven’t already and see if you’re deficient. An iron transfusion will make a huge difference, not just for your hair, but general energy levels as well. But keep up the minoxidil as well
 
Obviously you should look into the risks, but I found any hair loss from rapid weight loss recovered with the use of minoxidil and finasteride. I realize the later is somewhat contentious, but I never experienced any side effects from it and it probably had the biggest impact in terms of my hair regrowth.
 
Not sure if it's relevant for you, but worth knowing that topical minoxidil is toxic to cats and dogs
