I have consumed the same amount of caffeine every day for years. I will drink a couple cups of coffee in the morning and then in the afternoon drink another source of caffeine. Ever since I started taking Reta the last couple of days in the afternoon, after consuming my caffeine, I have felt overly stimulated which is an uncomfortable feeling. I was wondering if anyone else experiences this?

It’s fairly simple, it’s not Reta causing the issue, it’s the calorie deficit. Drinking coffee on an empty stomach can increase how quickly the caffeine is absorbed, which may make the effects feel stronger. Having something light first, like a banana or a small snack, can help slow absorption and make it easier on your stomach.

Reta via glucagon agonism does increase sympathetic nervous system activity, which is why it increases heart rate more than the other GLP's, so it is plausible it could increase the effects of caffeine. Either slowing absorption by the means above or reducing the amount or skipping the afternoon dose would work. The increase in heart rate tends to be mostly temporary so it will probably settle down over time.

Because you have less in your stomach, because of the calorie deficit, because of reta, the caffeine hits you harder, and your overstimulation will most likely get worse as you lose weight. I know it definitely has gotten for me. But for me, I don't see it as a bad thing. For you, it is an uncomfortable feeling, so what you can do is lower your caffeine dosage. For example, get rid of one cup of coffee and see how you feel.

Avid Coffee drinker as well. This is good information to have.

I have noticed that too. I have been drinking coffee on an empty stomach for at least 20 years and it seems that I am more jittery since I have been on reta.

You know what else is so interesting that I've noticed? It's that you can consume the same amount of calories daily, but the way caffeine hits you depends on the food volume in your stomach. Depends on how much volume of food you consumed the day before, and it does not matter if it's the same calories. So that's what I've noticed is the potency of caffeine has to do with a lot of the food volume as well as calories.

No jitters. 2 cups every morning starting around 5AM. Wife does the same, no issues. What dose are you on @Bigdog0628?

I take Reta and drink 150-300mg of caffeine most days. No jitters, in fact, I could take a nap....

standard caffeine pills are 100mg

standard cup of tea 50-100mg

cup of coffee 70 -150mg? more variation with coffee, usual number is about 100mg

This is a great thread. There is so much well deserved praise for Reta but over exuberant people could give themselves a scare if they don't start out slow and low and also take advise like this thread's into consideration

This happens to me with Reta and Tirz. I have to remind myself to drink smaller amounts and have been getting smaller sizes at Starbucks if I get it from there. Even with the smaller size I can’t finish it.

I have noticed this is directly tied to how much I am feeling the effects of the shots. So if it’s later in the week and I’m starting to get hungry again, my coffee consumption can pick back up but when I’m deep in the shots, some mornings I won’t even drink coffee.

I haven’t found this to be true. I have fasted before and drank coffee. I have also had coffee with food in my stomach on Reta/tirz. There is something else going on besides just a calorie deficit.

7 months mounjaro at 5mg and 7-8 cups coffee/day. Didn't feel anything like that. 1 month on reta at 3mg and also nothing different except much more thirst than before and less hunger suppression in comparison with tirz.

I’ve actually noticed something similar. I’ve always had a pretty high caffeine intake, but since starting reta, stimulants definitely seem to hit differently for me. It feels like I became more sensitive to the overstimulated/anxious side of caffeine.

Personally though, I kind of like it because it’s made me cut way back overall. I’ve been substituting some of the caffeine with 200mg modafinil instead, which feels smoother and less jittery for me.

Makes me wonder if some of the GLP-1 effects on dopamine/reward signaling are changing how stimulants feel.

400mg is the common daily limit in several countries including the US. The ratio I use is 5mg/kg.

Canada says 2.5mg/kg for children.
Oh damn, I had no clue it was that high. I only consume 200 mg daily before the gym. So when I hear something like 400, I'm thinking that might be a bit much. And the 200 mg for me gets me on crack for the next few hours!!

So I cut my caffeine I take back to 200mg this morning and 100 this afternoon and it seems to be the sweet spot. Man I love Reta it has cut out so many bad habits in my life and just don’t have the desire for them like I’ve had for decades.

A lot of people consume well over 400mg of caffeine per day.
At this point there is actually fairly decent evidence it is good for you , at least at reasonable doses, reducing risks of dementia and diabetes and others. Very high intakes of caffeine above 1g/day are probably a bad idea.
The problem people have with caffeine is if you tend to get anxiety, it can make it worse and it can stimulate the sympathetic nervous system causing physical effects that feel like anxiety and as a result cause anxiety via feedback. And any other drug that increases sympathetic nervous system activity can do the same or make caffeine effects more obvious, like reta. But it is not hard to reduce caffeine intake if getting adverse effects on reta, but maybe drop the dose back slowly to prevent caffeine withdrawl headaches or migraines.

I can’t tolerate the same amount of caffeine since starting Reta. I read somewhere to cut your caffeine in half do to increased heart rate but I honestly forget where I saw that!

Damn I wish I had this problem. Reta seems to give me less energy when weightlifting. Maybe I've adapted to it a bit over time, but I've had to get very disciplined about making sure I get carbs and preworkout before the gym. My theory is that the glucagon agonism just keeps my stored glucose so low that I have less available energy. I've had to keep my dose under 6mg/wk to feel normal. I've been taking reta for over a year and still can't get above that dose.

Have you tried adding Mots-C? I added that and it’s given me great energy!

You very definitely get into a low glycogen storage state when losing weight . It is using up this glycogen especially in the liver that causes a lot of the initial water weight loss on starting a diet as the glycogen needs water to keep it osmotically balanced.
So it is not necessarily just reta having this effect, weight loss itself keeps glycogen storage levels low.
