Can someone give me the TLDR on pens

I may not be understanding your post. Why wouldnt you be able to do that with pens? Mine let me find a good spot just like insulin needles do.

If these pens are like what I used to get for GLP1s, it was a button that you pressed and the needle would... shoot out and inject. So, I would not feel the needle until the button was pressed. That would not allow me to soft press to feel if it was hitting a nerve. Using just the needle allows me to feel for nerves first. If the pens have the needle protruding to find nerves first, than they are different from the ones I received back when my insurance covered GLP direct.

Ahhh. gotcha. Granted I only have a v1 and a v2 pen so far, but both of those, the needle stands proud and you insert it like any other syringe with a needle on it. So you can totally find a sweet spot like you are used to. Thanks for clarifying.

These pens are not like those pens. You have to insert the needle yourself. You have the opportunity to feel around and find a good spot. Some pens do hide the needle. Don't get one of those.

Ahhh, thank you. I have so much to learn. Seems I need to revisit my plan to keep using insulin needles. So much to read in this forum and a lot of this forum leads to other places to learn even more. Too many rabbit holes...

I too hated auto-injector pens. Been using Rx injections for 20+ years. I always ask the doctor for prefilled syringes but sometimes when it's time to refill they submit a pen Rx and I complain. I couldn't press the button, it's like pulling a trigger and shooting yourself in the leg, always hurt me. I also had to use the wegovy and zepbound pens, never got used to them.

These pens work just like syringes and I like them. I have both v1 and v2, but I don't use the "hide the needle" part of the v2 when injecting, I just leave it off. No worry about pulling the trigger as everything is manual and I can insert the needle and inject at the speed I want.
