Haven't had bloodwork in way too long. I have had high cholesterol readings in the past and have neglected it for the most part. I know my bad. But I was hoping with weight loss that it would correct itself.

In November 2024 my LDL was 210. Doctor recommended a statin, I didn't end up taking it because I was convinced if I could get some more weight off it would help. I also thought maybe Reta itself would help.

Today my LDL is 220. That is after months of Tirz and Reta and losing 50lbs and reaching a normal weight for the first time ever. So I guess a statin it is.

Just curious for people who have dealt with high cholesterol what has worked for you?

exercise, fish oil, and if you smoke stop
I always heard good things about fish oil. My grandma took it everyday and beat cancer back when in the early 80s when that kind of thing was rare. I really should add that to my diet.

Same story here. I could have written that post. Cholesterol 15 yrs ago was 225. Never took statins.
Didn’t do any labs before starting Tirz 7 months ago, but did do labs recently after losing 50 lb, in the gym 4 days per week, eating very clean, and surpassed my goal weight. Cholesterol was 240. I was quite bummed out by the number.
Did more labs last week for life insurance, and cholesterol was 211.
Learned that my omega-3 level was low, which contributes to cholesterol, so I was advised to start fish oil and a vitamin B complex. Adding in a little cardio exercise now.
Will recheck my labs about 4 months.

I had my blood tested in Jun-24 and started Tirz in July. I am on a statin and before the statin my total was about 225. This test my LDL was down to 45 from 74 in June. Most of my numbers came down but I am going to stop taking the statin and see if I can keep the numbers low.

Current weight is 205 and 241 when I started, exercise increased a little, but just walking a few times a week. I am not sure how much of my decline is weight loss, improved diet (very likely) or from the Tirz directly.

Forgot to say, you want to greatly increase your fiber intake, as this helps to reduce cholesterol.
I recently started taking Benefiber gummies.
2 g of fiber per gummy. Serving size is 3 gummies. So 6 g of fiber I do twice per day.
Also do one Metamucil/water drink per day.
Hoping to lower my cholesterol bigly with all of this.

Yeah it is a bummer.

My B vitamins were on the lower end but in the normal range. My doctor didn't mention fish oil so I'm glad I made this thread. That is why it is good to read about other people's experiences.

Repatha is amazing if you can get approval.

You need either;
- Repatha
Or
-Leqvio
I wish China would start making these drugs … they are so freaking expensive here in Australia… I dont qualify for pbs so I pay full price …

$180 per injection of repatha …
Leqvio is just way too expensive… one injection costs $2000aud …

Check whether you might be a "lean mass hyper-responder" on a low/er carb diet.

If so, high total chol. and ldl levels can only say so much for cardiovascular risk.

For me, prescription fish oil and a statin worked.

Although I’m not familiar with either drug, I’m co dude t they much more expensive in the US.

My cholesterol went up as well since starting tirz. I do have familial hypercholesterolemia so I don’t think dietary changes and weight loss will help me. I’m not on statins yet but I am highly considering it. I will check my numbers once I am at goal and make a decision then.

I wish I could Find a fish oil that I don’t burp up.
Wow I tried fish oil probably over a decade ago, and had totally forgotten about it.
But your mention of it gave a real visceral reminder of the horrible burps.
I can only imagine how much worse it would be with Tirz already slowing down my digestion.

I dn’t have a problem with fish oil, with or without the tirzepatide.

I recently had elevated Cholesterol during blood work (slightly over 200). My PCP is a big fan of not prescribing medication if she doesn't have to.
She told me a story about how high Cholesterol runs in her family and that hers became very high in her 30s. She began taking a Moringa supplement. It can be in capsule or gummy form. She described it as an "old Hispanic wives tale" that she tried and has kept her Cholesterol in check for years now. She personally takes the gummies everyday and suggested I do so as well.
She said we will check it again in 6 months and see how it works for me. I ordered capsules and take 2 of them (8000mg total) per day.
I have not done blood work since beginning the Moringa but will in the next 3 or 4 weeks. She seemed confident and has never steered me wrong.

**Definitely not saying stop your medicine but this may be worth looking into
