GLP-1 chills

I also suffer from the "chill". Been on tirz (no more than 5) since July. It's weird because I also have severe hot flashes because I am a woman of age. Tried to pin in down to a specific time , such as 2 days after shot or whatever but have not been able to.
It sucks.

I want someone to do studies on why this happens. The only time this has happened to me is from fasting, after 24 hours of no food, you get cold from your metabolism slowing down to adjust for no calories coming in. I wonder if the chills are tied to calorie consumption, as in we're not eating enough calories due to the meds. If you eat at a moderate calorie deficit while on glp-1's, would that avoid the feeling cold?

Or is it affecting thyroid function through a different mechanism that makes us cold?

I'm super curious, as someone who has run extremely hot all my life, no matter what I've weighed. I mentioned the chills effect to both my menopause doctor and my endocrinologist who Rx'd Zepbound, and neither had a clue, had never heard of it. I want answers!

i always had cold hands and feet because of my thyroid issues, but all of me has been freezing since i started on reta. i prefer it though - i love blankets.

I have been freezing for 15 months. It does not go away or get any better. I wear layers daily, a space heater at my desk at work and multiple blankets at home even with the heater always on. Luckily I am single so I keep my home the temp I want without complaints lol

Back when I did extended fasting (before glp-1) I would continuously be freezing. From my research, when I started Tirz, I stacked with Reta to combat the cold and the fatigue that so many get on Tirz only. I haven't had either.

I am cold all the time even in the summer. Post menopausal and I too have lost most of my insulation.

As I sit here under two comforters and two fleece blankets, I'm questioning my life choices. Is being skinny worth being freezing even while sweating? I can't decide right now, I'm too busy shivering. I'm debating sleeping on the couch so I can add in a heated blanket without killing my eskimo of a partner.

For me, it's definitely worth freezing when it's not cold in order to be thin. I looked in the mirror today and realized I don't look fat at all. I weighed myself yesterday and my BMI is 25.8. I wouldn't have thought this possible before. Maybe I'm just nuts but I'm willing to put up with the bad things from weight loss drugs.

Congratulations! 😘

Who’s sweating and cold at the same time?

Not me. I’m just always cold.

Whereas I used to sweat from watching an action movie, or sitting outside when it’s 78°.

How long until the freezing feelings become void? According to my calculations, Maybe Possibly Never. 😋

It seems like sitting on my floor, camped out next to my space heater, has become a daily event... est. late Fall 2023... 😆😅

Most mornings also involve my signature phrase, "holy 🤬 IT'S coooold" """why is it so cold""" and also "are you cold, too?!" @ my (longhair) cat. 🐈‍⬛

Yoyo ❤️ I haven't seen you around in ages!

I do, it's the worst. 🥲 And then you get colder because of the sweat!

Probably menopausal women having hot flashes, like someone mentioned up thread. That's gotta be a special kind of hell.

For me, I have always hated the feeling of sweating (severe sensory issue) and I've always broken out into a sweat in any mild heat, anything over 70-72. Now, being "cold" just makes me feel like I'm finally experiencing temperature like normal people--I live in Miami and going outside is finally tolerable.

We need AC year-round here, so I'm just bundled up inside. I prefer it to always being hot and sweaty, which made me incredibly irritable.

🤬 I'm 34, sir! Good day!

😭😬😂

Florida is the worst. It's so humid your skin is tacky no matter how chilly it is. How can you be sure it's even really sweat? 🙃 I can barely stand visiting with my sensory issues, props to you for managing to LIVE THERE!

@keangkong the freezing constantly is killing me. It’s mid-30’s and this morning I was wearing 2 pairs of sweatpants and a hoody. Laying under a blanket on the couch. That is the worst part for me. My wife swears I’m going to catch hypothermia. When I get out to my car I just sit there for like 2 minutes unable to drive or move at all.

Edit: I was just informed you can’t “catch” hypothermia. lol. I never once claimed to be smart.

You were able to figure out that you’re way too cold.

I'm perimenopausal too, but hot flashes haven't gotten me. (yet?) I'm assuming it's being mostly cold and then hot flashes come and go in between. Worst of both worlds.

In my 20's, the times when I had way too many liquor drinks and would get sick throwing up, I would have these random hot flashes that started around my neck and I could feel the heat radiating from my torso, head and face. That's what I imagine hot flashes are like, minus the vomiting.

My wife and I sleep swedish style with our own sheets and blankets. She keeps the bedroom at a balmy 64 degrees (even in the TX summer heat) and takes the blanket on and off throughout the night. I sleep with flannel PJ plus three blankets. You could get an electric blanket that is double-bed size. Then you can be toasty without impacting your partner.

What I’m saying is that I haven’t had a single hot flash or night sweat since starting Tirz. The hot is gone, in its entirety. I’ve swung to the other side, I’m always, always cold. I barely break a sweat when running indoors on the treadmill.

That's how we sleep too. We share a giant fleece (10ftx10ft, so there's no blanket hogging) and a comforter that he usually throws on top of the pile that's already on me. A heated blanket would just be too much, he already complains I'm a radiator when I sleep.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's my hormones being all fucked up, I've got a lot of wonky shit going on there. Sema definitely made it worse though.

Oh no, then I'm not that far gone into the freeze effect. I still get hot and if I were to run, I would definitely sweat. Ick.

Back in October, when the temp could still be warm, I appreciated the cold. But now, with the already cold weather, it’s unpleasant. I’m hoping in a few months and into the summer that I’m back to appreciating the chills… if only for my A/C bill. Ha.
