I've been on the Zep based on Dr recommendation for most of year and safely lost over 30lb of weight I wanted, but really appreciate the reduced inflammation and food noise. Feel better and fewer bad habbits on 5-7.5mg/week. Of course, all good things mean insurance just decided to remove coverage and deny pre-approval so now I'm in the game!

At first I looked at compounding and splitting high conc vials with BAC myself and then down the rabbit hole it was. A friend had very bad luck with one compounder and so I'm a bit leery on the trust side. Glad to have found a forum that seems less toxic than most and hope to learn a lot before I run out of what's in the fridge. I think I know next steps from reading what's already here, but I don't know what I don't know.

My interests are:
1) should I anger the gods by trying Reta instead of Tirzep (rehydrating and antiseptic precautions don't bother me)
2) how do I break this to my MD (who's frustrated as well)
3) is micro-dosing really worth it and should I get a pen (which one?) to make splitting easier

Welcome!

1. I don't see why not.

2. I would lie and say I am on compounded tirz, instead of gray tirz or reta.

3. I don't believe in microdosing. I love pens, but I only used a disposable one that came with generic lira from India.

1. If tirzepatide works perfectly well for you, keep using it, I mean you can buy grey and reconstitute, as long as you keep it in the fridge constantly and disinfect both the vial and skin, you’re sort of safe😁, what you can do to improve it would be split dose twice/week
2. If you trust your MD and think is open minded, talk to him, show him latest research, work together through progress, diet and blood works. My MD would probably snitch me to the cops
3. Micro dosing as in splitting your dose in 7 days it is an approach but in my opinion the hassle is not worth it. Tirz has a half life of 3-4 days, sema 4-5 days so the two shots/week seems ok until new studies come up. From the logical perspective microdosing keeps the levels in check much better than twice/week so it really is a personal choice. I have an irrational belief that the receptors would desensitise faster through microdosing but I have 0 proof regarding it.

1. If you know tirz works and you're comfortable with any side effects, I'd stick with that unless weight loss stalls and you still want to lose more. It is significantly cheaper. Also, then you don't have to lie to your doctor about what you're taking.

2. Up to how chill your doctor is. As far as my doctors are concerned, I saw the writing on the wall about compounding going away and stocked up from some compounding pharmacies. I think there are still some skating by until they get slapped with a letter from the FDA. Alternatively, Lilly DOES have the vials you pay cash for.... You can say you decided to suck it up until insurance covers it again.

3. Up to you. I try to do every five days (I'm not very consistent) to keep food noise to a minimum. I choose to use pens because it's more convenient for me to just screw a pen needle on, jab, put back in fridge- I use a pencil case with two pockets, one side has my pens and the other a ton of pen needles. So I can do it all in thirty seconds standing in the kitchen then just have a sharps disposal container nearby. I also found some vials have thicker stoppers than others, and pens eliminate the issue of a vial dulling the tip. But it's a weekly shot, is it worth it to you to spend the cash on a pen for something you only deal with once or twice a week? The cheapest I've seen usually end up being a little over $20 after shipping, then you also need pen needles. I choose to pay for the convenience.

If you want simple, Brello Health. Tirzepatide is $499 for THREE months supply. It comes in vials so you can tailor dose if need to. I was able to get the 15mg per week ordered with a copy of old prescription ( each vial 60mg)
