Hello everyone. Most people here are smarter than I am so I thought I would ask you.

I have a hypothetical problem to solve:

My query to chatGPT

Ok. I have a quandary. I am using an auto pen to administer 7.5mg of a medication every 7 days.

My doctor just increased my dose to 10mg every 7 days. I do not want to throw away the left over 7.5mg injector pens. I wish to use them. I need to receive a total of 10mg of this medication every 7 days. How often would I need to inject a 7.5mg pen to approximate 10mg every 7 days?

ChatGPT answer

To approximate a total dose of 10 mg every 7 days using 7.5 mg pens, calculate the required injection interval as follows:

The desired average daily dose is 10 mg / 7 days ≈ 1.4286 mg/day.

Each injection delivers 7.5 mg, so the interval ( x ) in days between injections should satisfy: 7.5 mg / ( x ) days = 1.4286 mg/day.

Solving for ( x ): ( x = 7.5 / (10/7) = 7.5 \times (7/10) = 52.5 / 10 = 5.25 ) days.

Thus, you would need to inject a 7.5 mg pen every 5.25 days (or 5 days and 6 hours) to achieve the equivalent average dose over time.

For a practical schedule on whole days, consider a repeating pattern over 21 days (3 weeks), where the desired total dose is 30 mg, requiring exactly 4 pens (since 4 × 7.5 mg = 30 mg). Space the 4 injections as evenly as possible, such as on days 0, 5, 11, and 16 (intervals of 5, 6, and 5 days), then repeat the pattern starting at day 21. This maintains the exact average interval of 5.25 days over the cycle.

IS MY QUERY FOR CHATGPT THE RIGHT WAY TO THINK ABOUT THIS?

Would this way of using up the 7.5mg pens actually work or is my thinking about this flawed?

Please help!

I think you'll prefer the 5 day schedule. You are allot more precise than I get. For me, sometime in that 5th day is good enough.
