Need more correlation vs causation. A few things to keep in mind:
1. Millions of people are on/have taken this drug. 1800 cases is still alarming, but just some perspective.
2. I read somewhere that diabetes/rapid weight loss can put you at greater risk for NAION as is: may not be directly related to the mechanism of the drug.
3. The US is a very litigious society, and not all of these cases can be taken as gospel until they are litigated.
4. Clinical data shows a very favorable safety profile for GLP-1 class of drugs. Semaglutide specifically has been around for 10+ years.

I've been on GLP-1 facebook groups, reddit, forums since 2022. The amount of dumbassery and drama I've seen from people is crazy over this medicine.

I have no doubt some people have legitimate issues. But I can guarantee there are people in this class action who abused this medication or continued to take it despite having severe side effects.

A couple of stories. 1. There was this lady in a mounjaro FB group who said she passed out and woke up in a pool of her own vomit. She had to have an ambulance called. It turned out she admitted that she was eating less than 500 calories and barely drinking water for 8 weeks. She continued to take the shot every week though.

2. There was a woman in another group, I can't remember what she was on. She was having a lot of stomach upset. So much so she decided to go to the ER. Despite having severe side effects for weeks, she continued to inject because she was losing weight. She said right before she went to the ER, she injected, even though it was less than a week since her last shot, because she was afraid the ER doctor was going to have to tell her to stop.

A lot of people too have had EDs in the past, and then take glp-1s and start leaning into ED behavior again.

I couldn’t agree more about people abusing it. My additional question is related to the condition of people before they even started taking the drug. It’s not like we are taking glp-1s because we are models of health and wellbeing. Even with the adverse reactions, they were probably improving their health, they just couldn’t stay the course.
