Hi

Im speaking with a vendor who is charging an extra 20% on the total cost price of my order. They are wanting to do this in case my order would be stopped by customs and they would re-ship it.

I asked if my order comes through the first time will they refund the 20%, they say "no".

Is this normal?

Thanks :)

Looks like you’re from Australia. Yes this is normal for countries with high levels of customs seizure such as yours, it’s called reship insurance. Just like car insurance you don’t get your money back when it turns out you don’t get in an accident. Also just like car insurance you can choose to go without it but nobody is covering you in the event that there is an issue. The people who are saying this isn’t normal aren’t from Aus.

If you find it distasteful you can tell the vendor you don’t need the reship insurance, but if I was in Aus I’d take it. Y’all have serious customs people as i understand it.

It’s not an uncommon practice. You can however not pay the 20% and gamble if you forfeit the reship policy.

I believe this is quite common for australia, norway, canada, a few others I can’t think of at the moment. But also varies a bit from vendor to vendor

Hi - yup, if you're from a country with high probability of seizures, some will charge you extra as insurance. But there are vendors who don't do that too and just re-ship anyway... you have to shop around a bit to find out the policies of each vendor.

In the US we usually get free reship with seizure without paying extra 🇺🇸🌭
