After Reaching Your Goal Weight: Cold Turkey or Maintenance?

My husband always asking when I'm going to stop losing weight. He tells me I should stop now. Ummm no! I'm not even under 200 pounds yet. I think he wants to keep me heavy so no man will look at me.
That thing with loved ones trying to tell people to stop when they're not yet at a healthy weight is so wild. It didn't happen to me with anyone inner circle, but a few (well-meaning, not mean spirited) coworkers were alarmed and said it, and of course my aunt is pretending to be concerned. Weight loss in others really freaks people out.

I've had a tendency toward bad habits my whole life. It was really great to discover that Tirzepatide and Retatrutide don't just help control my hunger, but they also take the edge off a few of my other vices.

Right now, I still have about 20 kilos (which is roughly 44 lbs) left to lose. Once I get close to my goal weight, I'm going to try to adjust my dosages so I can find a maintenance equilibrium.

And of course buy enough stash to last me a decade 🥳

I will always take tirzepitide. I'll work out the maintenance dose when the time comes. It has helped me in so many areas. It's helped my sleep apnea to the point I will most likely stop my CPAP, my lupus is in remission because it helps with inflammation, I am no longer considered a diabetic it's completely under control, BP is normal I'm down to one med from 3, my anxiety and depression are so much better I don't think about people staring because I don't weigh 398 pounds anymore, just so many areas it's helped me get a life beyond stuffing my feelings.
Plus I remember when I went off of ozempic because insurance wouldn't pay for it for a few months. I gained back 30 pounds before I find grey.
Tirzepatide has truly been a life changing miracle for me! Not once have I thought about doing crazy stuff because life was so lousy.

My wife is like that, but tell her I'll back down soon. I'll run into people I haven't seen in a while and some ask if I'm sick. I just say I'm dieting.

Indeed the human mind is fascinating. They're still figuring out what triggers it. (Case in point) I miss Gin! I think I'm going on a hiatus (again) Enjoy myself in ways that aren't entirely healthy. I'm gonna be dead a long time so . . . . I recon in the coming years they'll come up with new and better shit.

Makes sense. I imagine the best way to go about this is to titrate down gradually (similar to titrating up) - and at the point the weight starts going up, just go back to the last dose that worked. It may even make sense to try this every so often, just to hunt down the current working minimum dose. The lucky ones may even be able to go down to zero!
Thanks for contributing mate. I did not think of titrating down, because I am already at 2mg/week tirz. My start dose was 2.5mg. But I can also try titrating down per .5mg. Have a few weeks more to go with my belly fat. Then I will give it a try.

Wow - you lost all your weight at 2.5mg?! That's great.

After reaching your target weight, did you stop using it cold turkey, or do you plan to continue taking it long-term as maintenance?

This is actually something I've been thinking about a lot. I'm not sure whether I should just quit cold turkey once I reach my goal weight, or gradually taper down to the lowest effective dose and stay on it long-term for maintenance.

I want you to skip a shot, which will result in 2 weeks off. Report back to us with your findings. Food gradually started sounding a whole lot better and my interest in food just kept growing and growing until it was time for my next shot.

I'm a lifer. Once I hit my goal weight, I intend to adjust to find the sweet spot to keep me there. I'm also T2 in remission. Since my pancreas is damaged, my a1C will likely creep up as I age. Maintenance dosing should also help to keep that in check even though I eat as though diabetes is not in remission. I was consistently 5.5, 5.6. Now, 5.4 and lower.
