Hola

Hacía casi tres meses que no bebía alcohol. Ayer, con unos amigos, tomé una cerveza y dos copas de vino. Me sentí fatal.

Hello

I hadn't drunk alcohol for almost three months. Yesterday, with some friends, I had one beer and two glasses of wine. It made me feel awful. I woke up with a terrible headache, like I had a massive hangover.

I know my liver is processing the release of fatty acids through the glutathione pathway, but it's so bad that I can't even drink a little alcohol.

I'm definitely going to stop drinking, which is exactly what I want, but sometimes, socially, like yesterday, I felt obligated to drink so I wouldn't seem like a weirdo.

Next time, I'll say I'm feeling unwell or I won't go, since going to a pub with my friends, who all drink, and drinking water or Diet Coke is really strange.

Any recommendations for these situations? What do you guys do?

I generally have 2-4 beers a day, and haven't had any issues. What's your dose?

sorry

Order one beer and sip on it. If anyone comments on it I tell them I’m on rata and alcohol fucks with it.

No worries. It was a good chance for me to practice my spanish. Didn't trust my skills enough to type my reply though.

I'm on 1.5 mg and I just started my 8th week, and I've been on 1.5 mg for 4 weeks.

I started Reta last September and I've had 2 beers total, and that was at Christmas. It took me an hour for each one I was a hard drinker for 20+ years, but I have just lost all desire since I started Reta. It just turned off, and I've embraced it. I went to a New Years party and just drank seltzer with a lime in it and no even noticed. Friends can now drink in front of me, or offer to buy me drinks and I can just smile and show them my seltzer. It's no longer a trigger for me. My liver enzyme scores are now the lowest they've been in my adult life.

Another thing I noticed is that I thought my fingernails have been growing faster. I thought that was strange until I realized that I no longer chew them! I have since I was a kid, and that stopped with Reta also. This is a wonder drug to me.

Here's a odd one. I had an issue with my left thump applying pressure to hold a glass or whatever. Not sure it was arthritis or something else. It's almost gone.

Since you started Reta? I've found it great for reducing inflammation. I was on medication for gout and got a flares a few times a year, but since starting Reta, I'm off the medication and have been clear the whole time. I think studies are only finding the tip of the iceberg regarding all the benefits.

Yes, like 9 weeks ago. I agree with you on the potential benefits.

I have a similar expeirence not sure if it's from reta or glow, I have had weakness in my fingers on my right hand when using nail clippers and squeezing them to cut my nails. But a few months after starting using these the strength has returned. Kinda crazy

I've been on 2mg for almost 4 weeks and I haven't had any issues with about the same amount of alcohol as you describe, but I do drink maybe once every 1-2 weeks (down from a lot). It's a real challenge to eat and then drink two beers though, but I have no issues the next day except that I sleep better. I can feel that processing the alcohol takes quite a bit of time though.

Just started week 4 at .5 twice a week. I pray I am like most of you and it helps me off the beer! I only know it will be best for me. Only down 4lbs this month. I look forward to the scale reading a little less!

It could be due to its inflammatory effect. I have a similar case since I had surgery on my meniscus and cruciate ligament when I lived in Florida, and I've always felt discomfort in that knee. It disappeared within a few weeks of starting Reta.
It could be due to weight loss or some other effect on the joints, I don't know.

My friend, try increasing the dose to 1mg and I think you'll start to notice its more potent effect on the mental aspect of addictions.

I have the same issue. 2-4 beers and I feel next day as I was drinking hole night.
Try this (it helps me): 1 big glass of water and some electrolytes before sleeping.
The water and electrolyte will definitely help minus having to pee during the night but the Reta does make me feel the next day like I drank 3 times the amount that I actually did. I also noticed that beer does not go down so easy, if I just want to get buzzed, I'll just do a few shots of liquor.

same! totally stopped chewing my nails, they're so pretty now.
I was a daily drinker and now maybe once a week and can't have more than 1. Also beer doesn't sit very well and it used to be my favorite. I now have a gin and tonic if I go out, and find that sits fine.

I can barely get drunk anymore. Body rejects it (I will vomit after 2-3 drinks). used to be a heavy drinker. Im in two minds about how feel about it, while i like it on a summers day with my friends (UK so big drinking culture) and get tipsy, im also glad as i struggled with addiction and binge drinking for 2-4 years..

Just a FYI, tonic water is loaded with sugar unless you get the diet stuff.
thanks, I was alarmed to find out how much sugar after drinking them by the bucket last summer, but I figure for 1 drink while out it's not too big a deal. When making my own drinks I either mix it with club soda or half diet tonic. I like almost all diet pops but straight up diet tonic is just gross.

Wow This is an interesting side effect. I have gout as well. Luckily, my flares ups dont always become true flare ups as I will hurry to take Indomethacin when I start feeling it. I am due for some bloodwork and I will make sure to get a Uric acid test done.

sorry

You can do what Chili said just nurse a drink or a “drink” the whole time.

If these are good friends and you’re comfortable around them, you can say you’re on medication and can’t drink. Or that you’re sober now. Maybe even that you’re on a diet?

Never a bad idea to make new friends though, however this experience turns out
