What is Dulaglutide?

Dulaglutide is a medication from the GLP-1 receptor agonist family. It helps control blood sugar levels and can also reduce appetite, which may aid in weight loss.

Trulicity – What is it Used For?

  • Trulicity: Primarily used to treat type 2 diabetes by lowering blood sugar levels. It is administered as a once-weekly injection and often leads to weight loss as a secondary effect.

Standard Dosage for Weight Loss (Trulicity)

Although Trulicity is mainly prescribed for diabetes, here is the standard dosage for its general use:
  • Starting Dose: 0.75 mg once per week
  • Maintenance Dose: 1.5 mg once per week
  • Higher Doses: 3 mg or 4.5 mg per week (increased if necessary based on patient needs)

Possible Side Effects

Dulaglutide can cause side effects, including the following:
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Fatigue
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Loss of appetite
  • Gallstones (with prolonged use)
  • Injection site reactions

With higher doses so minimal, I think I understand where the sides come in. Easy to get too much.

The good thing about dulaglutide is it may be better for the brain. It can cross the blood-brain barrier more than any other GLP-1.

This is such an old drug why are people interested in it now 12 years later?
