Hi All,

I've been experiencing major light headedness when standing up too quick and getting out of bed. I'm also noticing that I'm getting crazy heart palpitations and shortness of breath when doing any sort of cardio. I'm gassed by the time I get up a flight of stairs. Is anyone experiencing this on Reta? I'm on 1mg currently and 7 weeks in (started at 0.5mg for the first 4 weeks).

Thanks!

You should see a doctor because the Reta may have revealed a pre-existing heart condition.

You are describing orthostatic hypotenstion = when you stand up. Stay hydrated and take electrolytes (potassium, sodium, calcium, etc.). And learn how to stand up without overly using the thigh muscles (See the Feldenkrais Method, judo, QiGong...).

An increased resting heart rate is common with Reta. Palpitations are the real issue that requires medical attention.

Sounds like dehydration, which can be an issue with reta

Work from the simplest solution.

Step 1. Hydrate. Make sure you're getting enough fluids. Not always electrolytes, but they can be helpful. Especially if you're putting out a lot of effort daily.

Step 2. Carbs. Diet and exercise don't mean go into a 1k+ deficit without making sure you've got a plan.

Step 3. Check in with your doctor. Let them know about the symptoms. They might order some tests to check your heart or maybe glucose levels (you can do this on your own, but you'd have to pick up a glucose meter).

It's probably just a mix of dehydration and increased HR from Reta. Eat a little more (200-350 calories). If you're in a calorie deficit, that's about how many extra calories Reta theoretically helps you burn.
