Fentanyl lab crypto investors are moving to peptides

Peptides are more profitable than fentanyl? Wired magazine reports:

Chinese Crypto-Funded Fentanyl Labs Are Switching to Selling Peptides​

The supplements known as peptides—chains of amino acids that promise to help those who smear, ingest, or inject them achieve everything from weight loss to skin rejuvenation—have become their own largely unregulated pharmaceutical subindustry. So it figures that their growth is being fueled by cryptocurrency, often sent directly to the Chinese labs that sell these mysterious panaceas.

Crypto-tracing firm Chainalysis this week published an analysis of crypto flows to peptide sellers, a gray market that the company now measures at more than $100 million a year and growing. Chainalysis specifically found that some of the same Chinese labs that were previously selling fentanyl precursors have now switched to manufacturing and selling peptides. The transition, Chainalysis believes, is designed to cash in on the wave of “looksmaxing” hype across social media that has pushed peptide sales—and to avoid the risk of a law enforcement crackdown on opioid manufacturers.

That is probably the first article on peptides that I've seen with solid reporting and no fear mongering. It is also an interesting take that relative amount of testing has gone down just as the actual amount of testing has gone up.

I really misinterpreted this title. I read it as “fentanyl is starting to show up more in peptides. I do test for that at home, regardless. Putting that in though, for peptides, is nothing but malicious (if it were true)

When a criminal gets a real job and starts being productive and beneficial, we call that rehabilitation. We rehabbed the fent makers by outbidding the junkies. We can collectively stare America right in the eyeballs and say, "you're welcome."

Chainanalysis does not have every vendor's wallet address, and they can't see every payment method. I am certain that $100M figure is a wild underestimate. It's well into the billions for sure.

No kidding! This is another thing that bothers me is ignorant people and propagandists assigning their values and motives to us.

NO ONE REALLY KNOWS WHY I TAKE HGH OR RETA. I never told anyone the real reasons. I'm sure some of you good folks could make some interesting guesses, but no one really knows because I never told anyone the true reasons, because they're MY reasons.

In that same vein, I might assume some of you take tirzepatide to fix your diabetes, but I don't know that for sure, I haven't interviewed you, I haven't seen your blood panels. I accept that any guess I make is likely wrong.

Then these jUrinalists come out with the most offensive possible motives; looksmaxxing or vanity, or "cheating" or crime or whatever because that's what people click on. Just like how anything to do with fentanyl or incels gets clicks so they'll include that keyword since it drives people nuts. It's all so tiresome.
