Hello everyone! I have afew questions before i start this week. I have read up so much information but always feel like its more reassuring to ask one last time for my own situation and peace of mind so sorry if these are repeated questions. I'm currently 31 years old, 167cm and 91kg with noticable body fat around my stomach, hips and neck. Average 7500-10k steps a day at work - when I count calories I can get to around 85kg in about a month but always find myself in this same cycle which led me to reta..

1. My body is very sensitive to things like coffee for example where I get jittery, I think its best for me to start at 0.5mg a week to avoid nausea and see from there

2. I have read about people split dosing (in my situation it would be 0.25mg twice a week) but I think its best to just do 1 a week on a Saturday morning when i tend to eat out more?

3. I do struggle to drink water, its more of a laziness thing.. Should I be aiming for minimum 2L a day or even more to be safe? What do you find best for you?

4. The appetite suppression worries me and losing any muscle tone i have. I'd love to aim for minimum 160g protein a day but if I REALLY struggle to eat what is the best way to go about this? What is the bare minimum I should aim for?

5. Is this something to run for 12 weeks as a "cycle"? Or something you can continuously run until you feel like you have achieved enough. This confuses me abit as I've always thought peptides had a maximum recommended time frame to run..

Sorry for the long post/repetitive questions but I incredibly appreciate anyone who takes the time to answer these and hope to pay it forward myself one day with some answers 😀😀😀

A little different than you in that I’m older, shorter, and had less I wanted to lose, but you’re questions aren’t out of the ordinary, so I’ll take a crack at answering them.

1. Reta has side effects, but it is absolutely not a stimulant in the traditional sense. I can’t drink coffee because all it does is make me jittery and also seems to ultimately crash my blood sugar. Reta doesn’t work like that at all and will not make you jittery. Starting at .5 split is going to just frustrate you because it will do nothing. I’d recommend starting at .5 once a week and then if after two weeks you’re not feeling anything at all (no benefits and no sides) then you can work your way up.

2. For me, I found that I can’t take 1.5mg in a single shot without getting sick, but taking 1mg only worked for about four days before I would start rebound-eating. So I do 1mg twice a week. Some of this will just be trial and error and is dependent on the person.

3. I just make sure I have water near me at all times and sip throughout the day until early evening. (I hate getting up to pee all night.) The more important thing is to find yourself a quality electrolyte source. Many people have found that if they do get nauseous what their body is really telling them is that they need electrolytes.

4. Eating can get difficult. I supplement with protein shakes and a product called Muscle Egg, which is a flavored egg white protein I can drink right out of the fridge like a glass of milk. Definitely keep aiming for the 160, but all the protein in the world won’t help you hold on to muscle unless your lifting weights. My understanding is that Reta is a little better at going after fat before it goes after muscle, but you support it to do by doing activities that promote fat loss and muscle growth.

5. Not all peptides need to be cycled. Plenty of them really do, but not all. You will need to be prepared to make permanent lifestyle changes to keep at least some of the weight off if you ever want to stop.

Most people get nausea or the worst of it a few months after starting as doses are going up, usually though not always you probably will not get it from your first few doses, so starting that low is not really needed.
Reta can cause heart rate increases, but not anxiety as such, although it is possible to get anxious by noticing and paying attention to a faster heart rate, but not a common problem at all, and not worth worrying about unless it happens.
If you are really struggling to eat, great, the drug is working really well for you, you can always drop back the dose if you are losing weight too fast or not getting enough calories or protein in to feel and function OK.
Generally the thirst control system in your brain works and is very hard to really disrupt, by all means try to drink more , but given you are not old and do not have diabetes or renal failure reta is not going to make you drink too little to actually cause problems.
Split dosing is for managing side effects that are worst the day or 2 after a dose, not worth worrying about until you get some side effects, which is more likely once you get to higher doses.
I generally strongly recommend staying on GLP medication forever, but you are not severely overweight and young. If you have always been overweight, then it is probably the most effective drug ever invented for weight loss, and if you keep taking it you should be able to keep the weight off long term. Reta is not yet officially approved and there is less research on it compared to tirzepatide and semaglutide, but those drugs definitely work to keep weight off long term and prevent the serious diseases that are caused by long term obesity. This is not yet proven in young healthy people, but is very likely to be eventually in a decade or so. As with every other type of weight loss intervention ever including diet and exercise, if you stop it most likely you will put the weight back on. So I would still recommend staying on it. If you have health problems caused by obesity such as impaired glucose tolerance, high blood pressure or high cholesterol, that is an extra strong reason to stay on it long term. The best thing about GLP drugs is that they help you to lose weight and keep it off and are generally beneficial to health rather than harmful, so staying on them is usually better for your health than stopping them.

As previously stated, you’re going to be frustrated by not losing on small split doses. I would push the envelope and balance your program between nausea and effective weight loss.

GLP’s are not designed to be a defined cycle because the half life of the drugs and the injection schedule don’t totally desensitize your receptors. Many folks have to titrate up to maintain loss.

As I learned from links shared in this forum, tirz is as effective as reta at muscle sparing. No statistical difference. Many folks here report less nausea from tirz, so you might consider that as an alternative. (It’s cheaper, too!)

Good luck!

  1. I started with 0.5mg every 6 days because I was also a bit concerned about side effects. For me, the process was very smooth. I experienced zero side effects at these lower dosages. I also haven't read about anyone having adverse effects from a 0.5mg injection.

  2. The drug's peak serum concentration occurs after 24 to 48 hours. Therefore, if you want the maximum effect for Saturday afternoon/evening, you should inject on Friday.

  3. I used to drink a lot of water, but I've clearly noticed a decrease in my thirst and craving for it. If you experience the same, I highly recommend actively forcing yourself to drink or using a reminder app. I've noticed that when I force myself, even without consciously feeling thirsty, I can easily drink 0.5 to 0.7 liters at once. The physical need for water is still there; the sensation of thirst just doesn't register.

  4. Your minimum protein requirement depends on your body weight and lean muscle mass. However, 150g of protein is sufficient for most people. I typically aim for 120 to 150g per day. Protein shakes are incredibly helpful here because the appetite suppression is substantial (at least in my experience).

  5. It takes about 3 to 4 weeks for Reta to reach its full effect and build up to a steady state in your system. You can cycle it, but it would be a waste of the accumulation phase where the compound builds up in your body. I’ve been running it continuously for 5 months now and am very close to my goal weight. You can take it for an extended period without any issues.

1-I too was nervous & sensitive so I did start at the .5, then 1 & now up to 1.25. I have bad anxiety usually & it has actually decreased. Like many are saying it could be less/slower weight loss (not sure how much you need/want to lose). Example I lost about 4lbs in a month going low, but my husband lost 4lbs the 1st week on the same dose. Everyone is different

2-Havent done any split yet

3-Ive been drinking about 9c a day. I have been really thirsty

4-Depends on your body, but I have not found it to be too appetite suppressing just where you are making better choices in what you are eating

5-I am new & haven't tried any or ever cycled anything so I have to wait & see how I feel & whats going to work for me in the future. Everyone does what best suits them. Many plan to just be long term, others for a certain time they need/want

I wanted to concur here with a couple things I was going to say myself lol:

.5mg each dose should be fine to start at if you’re concerned about side effects, I’m a fan of splitting but I’d split .5 and .5 if you are feeling hunger noise a few days after the first dose, .25 is unlikely to do much good.

Also agree that you’re going to want to be dosing Friday if you’re looking for max effect for the weekend.

Protein shakes are key, I personally like the Premier Protein brand, smooth texture, lots of good flavors, I have them in the fridge consistently, often as first and/or last meal of the day

Just my 2 cents... started at .5 and stayed for 4 weeks. Went to. 75 for 6 weeks. Noticed effects wearing off mid week so week 10 went with 1. This week is much harder to eat but protein shakes are helping get calories in. Dry mouth is by far my worst side effect. There is no " dosing protocol " unless you want to follow the clinical trials. Listen to your body. Slower is better in my opinion but hey, I'm not a Dr. Stay active, get calories in and be patient, there are way more success stories then failures if you ask me.

Hi all

Thanks for the info on this - looking to start shortly but a bit of concerns re side effects and also maintaining food eating etc as training

Worried about the fact that it will knock me off my training stride and then because of that have a negative effect on me

I started at 2mg due to hearing about the clinical studies started there. I’ve never used anything like this before so I definitely felt the appetite suppression, insomnia , constipation , heart rate increase right off the bat. The first few days I wanted to give up and get some sleep but then the side effects started to get easier to deal with and sleep improved about my second week. It sucks that you do have to force yourself to eat sometimes but it’s helping in the scale. But I am also I. The gym 6x a week. Reta definitely set me up for getting healthier but you still need to do the work. Good luck with your journey.

Totally get wanting one last check-in before starting — it’s a big shift, and it’s normal to want things to feel clear.
On the dose, if you already know you’re sensitive to stuff like caffeine, easing in slowly makes sense. A lot of people do fine with once-a-week dosing just because it’s simpler to keep track of, so picking a day that fits your routine sounds reasonable.
Water doesn’t have to be perfect — just try to drink more than you currently do. Even keeping a bottle next to you and taking small sips helps.
The appetite drop can feel weird at first. Protein shakes, yogurt, eggs, or smaller snacks can make it easier to get enough in without forcing big meals. You don’t need to hit a perfect number every day, just aim to keep some protein coming in.
As for how long to stay on it, that really varies. Some people use it short-term, others stay on longer depending on how they respond and what their goals are. It’s not really a strict “cycle” the way some other things are.
You’re thinking about all the right things, and it sounds like you’re going into this with a good mindset.

My take on this one, in my opinion that's probably due to a pretty low dose. I started at 2mg as the studies mentioned and felt the appetite suppression the next day. My wife is on it too, neither has had any nausea, felt or seen any heart rate increase (tested w/ a O2 that reads HR). Sleeping has been fine. My wife thought she had an issue early on with pooping, but it was just from eating less and eating better. We had started a lowered carb deal. Currently at 5 mg with a 2.5lb/week avereage.

I think you're on the right track. Starting small and titrating slowly is great since you're not in a rush. I too am lazy about drinking water but after I was losing weight it was necessary. There are several brands of those hydration packets you can add to water that don't taste bad and many come with or without caffeine.

To me, .5mg a week is micro dosing and many folks are doing great like this so it's definitely the best to try first as you may save money on top of not needing max dosing to feel like you're starving yourself.
