How do group buys negotiate such lower prices than buying in bulk directly from the vendors? A good example is when the MOQ listed and the price of a kit is way different than buying directly, even in large quantities. Does anyone have any insight or would you see that as a red flag etc. Thanks!

Delete the phrase "group buy" from your lexicon and replace it with "vendor promotion" and it all starts to make more sense.

What are advertised as "group buys" are really just promotions that a vendor offers without having to actually invest in inventory, branding, labeling, etc. and instead shifts the funding to the customers (or "group buyers" lol).

Anyone can negotiate anything with anyone else, and Chinese suppliers are no different when large(r) quantities are involved. Advertised prices and what can be negotiated directly can be vastly different. Of course the key is not getting caught up in allowing a seemingly "great" or "best" price to cause one to ignore common sense.

Thanks Zip. I get that for sure. Some of the price differences I have seen have just been…surprising.

So I finally started buying kits and I think I will only stick with trusted group buys for a while. I’ve done one where we got a great price on R30 (and other stuff). The other two I’ve done so far are monthly group buys with Uther and Weekly group buys with PGB. They take a while but I like it for a few reasons.
1. Someone else is dealing with the overseas vendor
2. Save on shipping
3. Testing is usually included
So there’s a few insights for you. I don’t care if it’s “vendor promos” or negotiated group prices or whatever. If you are more curious on specifics let me know.
