GLPs and Weight Loss have had Zero Effect in Lowering my Cholesterol

Haven't had bloodwork in way too long. I have had high cholesterol readings in the past and have neglected it for the most part. I know my bad. But I was hoping with weight loss that it would correct itself.

In November 2024 my LDL was 210. Doctor recommended a statin, I didn't end up taking it because I was convinced if I could get some more weight off it would help. I also thought maybe Reta itself would help.

Today my LDL is 220. That is after months of Tirz and Reta and losing 50lbs and reaching a normal weight for the first time ever. So I guess a statin it is.

Just curious for people who have dealt with high cholesterol what has worked for you?
Do you catalog everything you eat? If so, could you share a 2 week log with us?

Additionally, do you have any conditions like familial hypercholesterolemia?

My cholesterol went up as well since starting tirz. I do have familial hypercholesterolemia so I don’t think dietary changes and weight loss will help me. I’m not on statins yet but I am highly considering it. I will check my numbers once I am at goal and make a decision then.
Take full flush niacin, 500 mg's, 3 times a day. It will snap your cholesteral right back in line.

220 is only slightly elevated. Cholesterol ranges are very outdated and if you’re a woman over 40 your cholesterol levels will increase with hormonal insufficiencies.

Personally I wouldn’t take a medication for that level. I’d get a lipo (a) and lipo (b) test as these are the important health factors for CVD and increase my fiber intake considerably.

I was on statins ( 3 different statins, final was crestor) since my early 20s until 6 months ago, current bad cholesterol 148. Bad Cholesterol was always high 300s, through my 20s & 30s, 40s ( currently mid 50s, post menopausal). I was a gym and health person, bike, cardio etc 20s/30s. The statin lowered me to the 200s ( took almost 20 years with Vescepa with the statin to get me to the 200s) Motorcycle accident stopped my gym routine later, but still eat responsibly, Walked. Was told for years it was " familial". I always felt awful on statin, body ache, unexplained weight gain during perimen, headaches... just felt like crap. I'll never go back to a statin, regardless of my PCP writing rxs for them. I truly know, for me, my numbers normalized bc of TZ.

Thank you. I may experiment with supplements first after I go for bloodwork this year. Thanks for the recommendation!

This isn't medically sound advice. LDL-C >100 is proven causal link to heart issues. Lowering LDL, by any means, reduces your risk.

And I think you mean Lp(a) which is a good indicator of extra risk, and ApoB which is just a better way to measure the risk of high LDL. But someone with high ldl isn't going to have low ApoB.
