After I noticed this once I started twisting and pushing with fingers back to ensure it did not protrude side if bent at all.
There was a post about using bent needles that it could break inside you or vials, so if bent at all I will NOT pin with it. They are cheap, I would rather start over.

Yes. And I pricked my finger. Lesson learned.
So did I! 😄

I'd freak out if a needle got stuck under my skin lol

I give a lot of vaccines and generally I agree that there’s no reason to recap a syringe but every once in a while you get interrupted in the middle of what you’re doing. That’s life. Please do not lay an uncapped syringe on any old surface before coming back to inject and also don’t put yourself at risk for injury by using two hands to recap.

Thank you, I was unaware of that technique. I usually cap when having multiple injections prior to going to my sharps container to dispose of them, I may try to add moving it to work area to avoid or use this technique.

Yep. I prepare my cjc no dac/ipa a few hours ahead of injecting (to make sure I’m fasted). So this happened last week but I didn’t notice until I was up to the bathroom to pin it. Oh well.

Another vaccinator pro-tip: your sharps container should already be at your workstation. Like literally right next to you, shouldn’t even have to take a step. You should NOT recap a used needle, it should go directly from the injection site to the sharps container. Capping the used needle puts yourself at risk, walking anywhere with a used needle puts yourself and others at risk.

Be safe 🙂

I just throw everything in an empty plastic peanut canister, aka my cheap sharps container. This can help you avoid the whole situation.

Great subject. Yes did happen. Painful learning. I recap, place in old milk jug, and then trash. I will evaluate the single hand scoop or direct trash to avoid recap. This should be on cheat sheet for newbies.

direct trash to avoid recap.
PLEASE do not throw a used, uncapped needle directly into the trash. Please put it in a sharps container of some kind. A milk jug is ok but an empty laundry detergent bottle is better because it has a screw top and is tougher. When that is full, then you can put it in the trash (depending on your state)

Yes.

I recap needles because even though I use a sharps container I like capping them. Some sort of tic. I know I don't need to and don't suggest people do it, but good luck getting me to stop even if I made a conscious effort to do it.

I don't worry about the safety aspect because I literally just pulled them out of my body. If a 1mm hole in my skin picks up enough of an infectious agent to do me harm in the five seconds between it being in me and me recapping it, I think something else was probably going to do me in anyway.
