Another newbie here, found out about this forum on Facebook.

I've always struggled with my weight even from a very young age, my father was very strict on Religion growing up that I had no choice but to miss out on a lot of good opportunities that I wanted to be involved in such as cubs and cadets (active things). Now I am 35 near 28 stone and I don’t know what to do with myself and tbh I am struggling. - I've never wanted to use my weight as an excuse but it is causing me so many problems in life right now and I'm so unhappy.

I've tried losing wight like you would normally do but nothing seems to work for me so I’ve turned to research. I've been looking in Mounjaro over the past several months, how can I not when you see it plastered all over TikTok. Video after video about MJ and how its changed people’s life’s etc but one thing it comes down to is affording to buy it each month and the cost of the shopping bill too.

Shopping is another big problem as I’m a very plain eater, I've flicked though loads of different meal ideas and they look horrible to me, some I have tried and hated it.

Most recently I’ve been looking at Retatrutide which looks to be just as expensive.

I just want to live a good life, free of the struggles and pains of being fat, I just dislike what I see.

I feel like I’m torn between the devil and the deep right now.

Welcome!

Yes, the GLP-1s all have some initial cost, even in the gray market where everything is relatively cheap. Like for reta from SRY's UK warehouse, it is at least $2 a mg for a $200+ purchase.

Tirz and sema are even cheaper per mg and are also FDA approved. Some also report more appetite suppression with sema and tirz in the beginning, but reta does better overall with weight loss it seems.

But $200 of tirz (which is what I am on) would pay for itself within the first two weeks with my old food budget since I would buy a lot of healthy/expensive food.

Personally, I am a also a fan of stimulants, more for energy than weight loss. But they can help in the interim if you can get a Rx from your doctor for phentermine. Most docs in the US at least are not big on them, but some are, and the pharmacists know who they are. I just get them from India now.

It's not clear how much you've read up about how these gray market alternatives work.

But in a nutshell, the price quoted in most cases is for a "kit" or box of ten vials. So if you see pricing that says "R10 – £150", that's actually 100mg total retatrutide for 150 quid. Sort of: the mass is often actually higher, which is one reason why independent third-party group testing is essential. Your small extra costs might include that, shipping fees, supplies that you'll need to procure independently (bacteriorstatic water to dilute the dry powder you'll get, syringes, alcohol wipes).

At max dose of 12mg per week (after you carefully titrate up to that or less), it's probably a lot less expensive than you're thinking. As @Calm Logic pointed out, the weekly savings on food (on-the-run impulse purchases; brain-commanded compulsive eating; et c.) alone easily make up for it.

Take a long time to learn all the ins and outs first, including how to calculate and do reconstitution of the lyophilized (freeze-dried) vial, how to select a vendor and how to avoid scams and disappointments, how to pay with crypto, etc.

Unfortunately, a new rule on this website forbids users from requesting or providing URLs/links for the Discord and Telegram servers where vendors hawk their wares. So maybe seek out sites similar to this, such as Peppy's and Qualligator where users can earn (via discussion participation) access to databases with that info. Here, follow New Posts and keep reading up to see what people consider pros/cons of vendors. SRY was mentioned to you, and is likely a good bet for the UK. Note that shipping can be a month or so; don't panic (I do!)

I highly recommend you work with your GP (who will disapprove of gray market and especially unapproved retatrutide, but should indicate willingness or reasons not to prescribe Mounjaro for your particular health profile; thyroid and pancreas issues are the chief barriers). And ask what followup testing/monitoring the GP can provide. Invest in a cheap fingertip pulse oximeter because reta has a quirky disturbing BPM side effect for many people.

Another reason to see a doc is it seems you may be able to get tirz for less than £10:

From 23 March 2025, you can be prescribed tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) to manage your weight on the NHS only if it is prescribed by a specialist weight management service...

From 23 June 2025 tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) will be made available through primary care, for some patents, who are at high risk of weight related complications and ill health.

Check with your local integrated care board to see if you will be eligible to be assessed to see if tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) is the right treatment for you.

I am not familiar at all with reta dosing schedules, but this is a weekly and monthly cost estimate in US dollars for different doses, per Google Gemini:

So even if one eventually goes to the highest dose, the monthly cost is only $100. And it can be cheaper than that since reta shipped from China is often less than $1 per mg:
