So,crypto is confusing. I have been using a telegram wallet to send usdt and that is all good but my go to vendor now isn't shipping to Canada and it seems like most others don't accept the telegram wallet. I made a coinbase account, I put money in the coinbase account and now have bitcoin - I don't know what to do from here to make purchases. I've seen it said to not just send from this account but I don't understand how or what to do to move it to a different account. Also the fact that every transaction is costing me fees is crazy making. I'm in Canada is that makes a difference in advice here. Thanks to anybody that can advise on next steps.

You can buy USDT and USDC on coinbase then send to your exodus wallet (download from app store or google play). You can pay vendors with exodus.
If you have bought bitcoin, you can swap it for USDT or USDC in the exodus wallet.
I feel your pain - my first transaction took me forever to ensure I wasn't doing it wrong.

so I have the exodus wallet set up and I sent myself $15 in bitcoin and received 10,99 that seems like a steep fee. is it because I'm sending as Bitcoin? is it better to transfer it to USDT in coinbase before sending to exodus? I really have read like 30 threads on this. it's confusing and I'm old.

If you are already using coinbase then buy USDC not BTC (for stability). Its a ETH based stablecoin so can just sit there until you are ready for a transaction.

Get an Exodus wallet.

When you are ready for a transaction; transfer needed USDC to your Exodus wallet. Then transfer the USDC from Exodus to the vendor. You may need a little bit of Ethereum for gas fees.

Sidenote- Coinbase doesn't support USDT natively so if you are struggling with the basics avoid USDT.

Im a fellow canadian. Coinbase is an annoying site to use. I personally use shakepay more often. Super simple. Whenever you want to make a purchase you add cash, buy BTC and send it. No fees for sending the BTC either. In and out, the transaction is done and confirmed in 10minutes.

I hardly feel the need to use an external wallet for these things because of that. Its a really easy interface too. You can only buy BTC or ETH though so just buy it on the spot whenever you need to make a purchase.

Hope this helps.

What's the advantage of sending to an Exodus wallet first instead of just sending directly from Coinbase?

If the vendor gets flagged for suspicious activity or transactions by Coinbase, so does your account. Exodus doesn't care. Coinbase may close your account and it's happened before.

I seriously hesitated and stressed out for a long time before finally getting into crypto. In the end, I went with Kraken along with the Kraken wallet. After messing around with ETH, USDC, and Solana, I swapped everything into BTC—and it’s been running smooth ever since 😀

Now I just load euros onto the exchange, and whenever I need to make a payment, I buy BTC there, send it to my Kraken wallet, and pay from there. I might lose a few bucks here and there, but honestly, the simplicity is totally worth it to me.

I liked Kraken except for the 7-day hold with each deposit.

Same here, im in Canada and use shakepay for most everything. Keep a balance, over i think $3000 and get decent interest...more than traditional banks
