It seems like a lot of my old content is missing. THR Oldest post i can find is April 22nd. I noticed this when I was looking to link to my 'Analysis of Vendor Sourcing' post which I can't find anywhere. I am also getting a lot of errors searching for stuff. I am getting the board is down for maintenance page quite a bit. Is anyone else having issues? I would assume its not just me.

I tend to look forward, so no!

Search seems to be working for me. This one from April 9th? Different title though ...
Vendor Manufacturer Groups?

Yeah, there was a thread that I commented on one night this week and by the next morning, the whole post was gone. I just figured the thread annoyed Zip and he smoked it. I hadn’t noticed the maintenance page until someone posted the screenshot of Smiter’s profile. There may be some purging going on behind the scenes.

Who's next? I have ideas

Hopefully you because, as you’re well aware, we’re all sick of your crap. And the post I was referring to was full of your nonsense.

I wish Zip would add a stat to everyone’s profile showing the number of users ignoring that person. I’m sure you’d be at the top of the leaderboard.

And the wild thing is, I don’t actually think you’re unintelligent. I just don’t know why you insist on acting like an idiot and being so antagonistic. It’s exhausting. Maybe try being helpful every now and then.

Do you have the list?
Apparently you have not? So

I lost a few posts during one of the recent outages , I think I posted them after the last backup point . No big deal, I can't even recall what I was commenting on .

I may be doing something wrong but every time I log out it pops and I have to back click several times to get home. Again it could be me?

I noticed a while back that post was missing when I went to look for it. It was very informative. I just assumed you took it down for a reason.

Threads and posts get deleted all the time, usually because people violate forum rules.

We don't have the time, resources, or inclination to announce or explain when posts and threads are deleted, and there are limits to our willingness to weed out individual posts from threads that get out of control so at that point the thread will simply get whacked.

OK. The specific one I mentioned just doesn't seem like that kind of post. It was very popular and often referred to. A lot of people have mentioned looking for it. I don't know that there was anything controversial about it and it was up for a long time. Would it exist anywhere or is it gone forever?

While that may seem perfectly logical to you, it doesn't take into account the dozens of "No Source Discussion" newbies discussing sources in that thread, which unfortunately often results in otherwise meaningful threads being deleted.

Thanks zip , that explains it , it was a great doc and lots of research went into it and helped me confirm vendors. If newer members don't understand then I guess that's an understandable consequence.

Longer term roadmap , perhaps additional sections that can only be accessed privately once a higher ranking is obtained may help with this . Easier said than done and probably impossible and impractical to implement. Forum is great as is 🙂

I'm really not inclined to create private sections, but this likely would have been avoided if the original thread had been posted in the Research Lab section instead of the Public Square section.

Too many people default to posting threads in the Public Square (which is annoying enough itself), which makes it far more likely to cause problems when sources are being discussed. A little extra attention and care to where threads are posted would probably help avoid the vast majority of thread deletions.

@ZippityDooDah

Having received these links in relation to me asking the same question, I can understand that it would be time consuming and you feel as though it’s not your responsibility to individually educate when the forum rules are posted.

However, it seems like this happens with very informative posts - which is a disservice to the members. This one particularly was incredibly informational. My deleted post had similar content.

Maybe a templated, quick, disclaimer on posts for warning wouldn’t be so bad. Or the ability to change the post's location (not sure if that’s possible). Sometimes it’s not intuitive to discern where certain content should go. That might have been my issue too.

We now have nearly 60,000 members, and average close to 1000 new posts per day. The simple reality is that myself and the mods do not have the time or inclination to micromanage every single post and thread, or notify someone when their post or thread is edited, moved, or deleted.

When a post or thread can no longer be found, it's safe to assume that something caused that to happen, and unless a warning was sent regarding specific content it's likely the result of other members violating forum rules or policies and not necessarily a reflection on the merits of the topic being discussed or the person who started the discussion.

We rely on members to act cooperatively to self-police most content, and when inappropriate or problem posts such as newbies discussion sourcing are made it's up to established members to refuse to engage them, point out violations, and report such content. Absent that kind of 'group moderation', when it gets to the point of excessive problem posts in a thread, that thread is simply going to be deleted.

I was hesitant, but now you've given your green light, I'm going to start a career as a sycophant. ;-)

Thank you for creating this forum and keeping it going. Having set up a forum a few years ago, and quickly abandoned it, for a nonprofit organization of about a hundred professionals, I know firsthand how much work it takes.

New subreddits usually take 3 to 4 weeks to turn rotten. That doesn't seem to happen here, and I wish it would stay that way.

It's the only place where we can find a reliable, unbiased list of CN sources. I'd be willing to pay just for that (please don't shoot!).

Yes, good to hear that; I wasn't sure either.
