I just ordered a slick device on Amazon. It is called an Amonior sharps container. It clips the needle of an insulin syringe and stores the needle. Its tiny and holds the same sharps as 30 1 qt sharps containers. I guess you can just toss the needle-less syringe after clipping. Now I can free up a shelve in the kitchen used for sharps containers.

Is it this?

I’m actually really interested in this because, as you said, it would be a game changer.

I thought about getting one but it felt like I would be advertising my addiction to the trash collectors if a bag split open.

Instead I recap all needles and toss them into a brown paper sandwich bag inside another brown paper sandwich bag along with alcohol wipes, empty pen cartridges, used vials, filters and nitrile gloves then when it’s about 1/2 full I wrap it in gaffers tape then one short piece of red biohazard tape, stuff it into an almond milk carton and tape that up and write HIV on the outside with a Sharpie and wrap it in a paper grocery bag from Trader Joe’s with a scoop of cat litter. It makes me feel like I’m back in San Francisco. 🤣

I think I saw a few of those in the gutter next to human feces in the tenderloin the last time I visited...

Yes Id like one of those..
I use needle nose bird scissors like pliers to bend the pen needle into a loop and then flatten it. I just loop the back of pen needle. I recap, wrap in my wipe foil packet and toss in the trash. Zero poke risk. For syringes the clip would be super useful.

The one from Injectionshop is much more compact than the one yobculture linked to. I like that it just stores the snipped-off needles. I was replacing the caps on the syringes when done (and will continue to do so), but now there's no worry of any mishaps if the cap comes loose.

1. What were you doing in the Tenderloin? 😳 Like all major cities, there are always bad areas. This is an area to avoid.
2. To be fair, crime in SF has dropped by 26% in 2025. The homicide rate in SF is the lowest since the 1950s, so things are getting better with the new mayor.
3. It’s funny seeing a bunch of cats chatting about syringe clippers. 😸
4. Inspired by this post, I’m going to pull the trigger and get this one. I’ll just keep the neutered syringes in a coffee can and duct tape it shut when I toss it.

3) ...
4) prrrrrr

Oh how I miss The City so. 😭

Gaffer's tape? Do you work with cables often?

That's a good one !
YAY NEW STUFF TO BUY 😉

Thanks, just bought one. I had to buy a second 3 litre sharps bin recently as the old one was nearly full. This sounds a lot easier.

Where I live you can just utilize an existing container; like your laundry detergent, protein canister, etc..You only need to duct tape the lid shut, and write SHARPS or Medical Waste, visibly on the outside and put it in the trash. I am willing to bet most places that is true.

I was today years old when I learned this. Going to dig a little bit further to make sure that's a thing here in Colorado but it would save me from buying specific containers. Coupling that with one of those needle clippers would effectively make a Tide detergent bottle a single lifetime container that I'd likely never have to worry about again since you can fit about a bajillion (scientific term) clipped needles in one of those big 114oz bottles.
