I think this is a bad one. The last one he was ataxic but could walk. This time he couldn’t walk. I put him on the dog bed in a comfortable position and gave him a dose of his pain meds. He went to sleep for about an hour; he just woke up, checked to see where I am and laid his head back down. I know he is 16 and I’m lucky to have had him so long, but I’m still not ready.

I was told by one vet that dogs rarely get strokes, at least compared to "old dog vestibular syndrome." It was very scary when it happened, but our dog at the time improved sooner than later. I don't even think the vet provided any treatment, but it was many years ago.
I’d prefer you were right, but other than the head tilt and ataxic gait, it doesn’t fit. The vet diagnosed stroke because he has a ventricular arrhythmia; his first stroke, he fell down, then vomited. The emergency vet thought he’d had a seizure and started seizure meds. His vet noted an extremely irregular heart beat, did an EKG and an Echo, and he was on 3 cardiac meds that day. His last echo showed an extremely dilated left ventricle and I was warned he doesn’t have a lot of time left.

I wish there was a miracle cure for him, but I don’t think there is. He is a very old and frail dog.

😢So sorry to hear this. I empathize with you greatly. My pup is a big girl and she's going on 14. It's so hard to watch them suffer, especially when they have lived out their best days. That's a lucky fur baby you have to have so much care and love for him. 🫠
