Needle Safety

Just arrived to this thread

It's obvious he was playing us. (And probably re-using needles, too. But as I mentioned earlier in this thread, that's actually pretty commonplace in the diabetic community. Doesn't make it right, but, to quote my most-hated expression, it is what it is).

Is it really, though? Not arguing, I just have personally never reused needles as a diabetic and none of my family/friends do either so I was surprised to see this lol. Like we definitely joke about how long it's been since we changed a lancet but definitely not needles.

Are we known for injecting at the most inconvenient, unsterile times? Yah probably. But the needle was new.

It was funny watching people fall into his trap, and get worked up over it. This whole gray market business is all about personal risk, and what you're willing to accept.

Don't expect me to fall in line with your risk level. I won't ask you to follow mine.

Playing us, fine. I definitely fell for it.

I also think there is no room for advocating such patently unsafe practices on such a public forum. I do plenty of "unsafe" things, but I won't discuss them here, on a forum open to the public that any random person can find and assume we know what we are talking about. I do tons of 'unsafe' things, but I'm aware of the fact that my posts can be seen by anyone with Google. I'm not going to accidentally advocate for something that I know I probably shouldn't be doing.

Also repeated pokey through hard stopper equals ouchie

It's probably not dulling the needle though, it's definitely removing the lubricant from the needle that helps it slide in smoothly.

Whatever it is, needle ouchie. And not sterile. 🤷‍♀️

Necroing threads is literally the only way to summon @chmuse . She usually won't ask for a boon, but if she does, be polite and do the best you can to give it, or she'll burn down the entire thread. If you DO give the boon, you'll have good luck for the rest of the day.

Interesting. you guys have managed to actually convince me to only use one needle per day. As per not using same needle to pin myself more than once in the same sitting/day, I'm sorry can't bring myself to accept that, and I'll continue doing it my way. And that has Absolutely nothing to do with the cost and absolutely everything to do with what I consider it to be totally stupid the thinking that a needle that I just pinned myself with right now, will somehow be dangerous to me if I use it again (on myself) after 30 seconds(after I have wiped it with alcohol few more times already). I hope you guys don't take it as me arguing for the sake of arguing, just simply stating that I'm one of those people that will not just do something because other say so, or even science says so. I will NOT change my mind come hell or high water. Just the way I am! Not telling you or anyone to follow my practice nor am I claiming that my way is the best practice. Simply put I'm 100% convinced that my method is 100% risk free for me. Others should absolutely do what makes them comfortable doing and follow professional advice. I'm a financial executive and have Zero medical credentials other than before I take e medication or adapt a certain method i do a lot of research (i place more credence on personal experiences from many "not just one person" that just say science)

The ad hominem here is a bit uncalled for, as I have mentioned more than ten times now that people should not follow my advice. I'm simply telling it how I do it. BTW, I do feel that buying gray from internet, from sources that are 1000's of miles away, and produced in facilities that might have never been inspected (by a reputable government agency) is way more dangerous/risky than using a disinfected needle more than once on myself. Even so I/we seem to be willing to take that risk. to each their own!
I find it amusing when people panic about reusing a needle while simultaneously injecting untested or poorly regulated substances into their bodies. Personally, I don't reuse needles, but the lectures about risk management can be a bit much. The reality is that anyone using grey-market compounds is already accepting a certain level of risk. It's interesting to see people focus intensely on one relatively small risk while overlooking the much larger uncertainties surrounding the substances they're injecting in the first place.

Varnished needles were a key selling point for BD needles in the 1990s: I had sales materials with electron microscope photos showing the cells torn away by the needle. That really impressed some pharmacists.
