Hello folks! I've spent most of my "forum life" surfing car modding forums, computer tech forums, BBS (early 90's dial-up) to find local folks with common interests and the exchange of shareware 😉. Now I've entered the stage of my life where my interests have shifted towards improving health, improving energy to keep up with my kids, and that's why I'm here - to learn about options to help with improving my health.
Anyhow, I'm a mid-40's male and have been in NC for 20 years. Got my first house here, got married here, had kids here and added pounds here. I work in tech, so my lifestyle is somewhat sedentary, but I do try to get in my steps, bike and include some weight training. I'm 5'9" and 205 lbs, so borderline obese (I was 140 at the end of High School and in Freshman / Sophmore year of College). Naturally, I'm finding that even with a balanced diet and some exercise, I cannot lose the extra weight (visceral, mostly around the stomach). My dad and all my uncles (his brothers) all have the same shape, so this is partially genetics. I do not drink or smoke (those things really aren't fun anymore), but the added weight has increased my blood pressure (diagnosed with hypertension in 2020), causes GERD and also have borderline high cholesterol as a result.
I recently started hormone replacement therapy under the guidance from my Doctor for low T to help with energy and muscle composition, did a sleep study (dad has apnea), and get to have my first colonoscopy soon! Hooray! Getting older sucks, but communities like this can help learn, exchange ideas and figure out solutions that can help with situations like mine.
