I started taking Reta at 0.5mg/week three weeks ago. I have been training for a half marathon and increasing my long runs. Last week I ran 15k and bonked with no energy around last mile or two. I had trained for and ran a half marathon in March with no such issues. I have been bring hydration vest, drinking electrolytes before I run, eat a pbj and banana sandwich an hour or two before the run, and bring gu on my run to no avail. I am wondering if I do not have enough glucagon levels to power my long distance 1-2 hour runs and considering pausing Reta until after my race in mid-November. Thoughts?

That’s seems like a good call to pause it. It won’t take very long to get that low of a dose out of your system to see if it was the cause.

Worth a try to see in my feeble opinion.

Was training for a marathon start of this year on mounjaro was exactly the same. Bonked on longer runs and heart rate was higher. Took around 4 weeks to get back to where I was before
Debating whether to try reta at the minute as will be starting to train for tokyo from December. Just to get round not quickly as have dodgy knee

Probably a safe bet to just get it out of your system. It does take 4 weeks to fully saturate your system at your current dose. You could in theory wait it out and see if symptoms taper off as it is really a low dose. Just my .02 cents.

Yes, I decided to stop taking it. It has been over 4 weeks and long runs are going well. Ran 12.5 miles a week or two ago. My race is this upcoming weekend. I am excited and feel better about energy now. I will come back and update how the race goes.

Update, I complete the half marathon and ran the entire race. I ran it about 10 minutes slower than an HM earlier this year, but it was a lot warmer weather and this was a tough race with incline up a bridge. I ran another 5k on Thanksgiving and PR’d in that race. I have resumed taking Reta last week at a low micro dose to reacclimate my body. I am going to pull back on the long-distance snd endurance running for now.

One Gu wouldn’t be enough for me for a half, but I’m a slow runner. It could just be a blood sugar issue, and you need more Gu.

I used 3 GUs during the HM and that was sufficient. It probably worked out that I took one GU at 30 minutes in, 2nd at 60 mins, and 3rd around 90 minutes then finish a little over 120 minutes.

Well done on completing the half

Fuelling women require different fuelling especially along menstural cycle so sometimes will need a single gel or more other times.

I have paced races at 2hr10 and pb is just under 1hr52. Generally I would preloaded a little bit in the 3 days before and then use just one gel through the race. You get used to what you know your body can cope with.

Marathon fuelling is alot more

Currently on 0.5mg of ret and seeing how it goes with training for Tokyo. Up to 10 miles on Sunday so will k ow then if I need to drop use for next few months, as Mounjaro crippled me on runs of 8miles or more having no energy and high heart rate

I am doing some endurance cycling and have been very impressed with Reta currently on 2mg / week and have increased my unfueled distance, I think up-regulation of fat oxidation is helping with energy for zone 2 endurance. Take this with a grain of salt as I am not the best cyclist (220w FTP) but was impressed. I did notice that making sure I ate some more carbs than usual the day before my long ride was important.

That said in my marathon days my fueling requirements were far higher than now that I am cycling so it may be different.

Have you guys noticed any difference in your perception of heart rate and how it might impact your race times while on Reta?.... It seems as though heartrate is marginally increased while on Reta but I'm not sure if that's resting or during exertion. Would also be curious how it effects VO2 max.
