I suck with Crypto, but I do think I did everything right. Bought PYUSD, did the verification stuff, scanned the QR code - - but when I go to send it gives a message that:

"We cant send to that contact in an effort to protect your account"

Anyone else run into this? Should I be worried? The vendor is from here.

Thanks!

Are you trying to send directly from Paypal to a vendor?

yes. I scanned their QR code in the crypto section. It does say it is sending (through?) Ethereum.. but from my end it is all paypal/PYUSD..

EDIT: By that I mean, I clicked on my crypto account, hit the send button, than hit the 'scan QR code button'.

I think they keep a list of forbidden vendors. The government is probably involved in policing this.

The best practice is to get a non-custodial wallet like Exodus or Trust Wallet. You should be able to transfer from PayPal to that wallet and then transfer from that wallet to the vendor. Avoid keeping a big balance in the non-custodial wallet.

Never send directly have an exchange account (i.e., paypal). Do you know if the vendor is using PYUSD-Eth or PYUSD-Sol? You'll want to setup a second wallet (non-custodial like Exodus or Trust). Transfer the PYUSD there and also buy (in paypal) and transfer another $5 or so in either Solana or Ethereum to that wallet as well (need for "gas"). Then send the PYUSD to the vendor from that non-custodial wallet. You'll need to know which chain they are using for the transfer so you know if you need Ethereum or Solana. Or you could buy $5 of each and transfer you you are covered either way.

And keep an eye of your paypal account because people have had their accounts locked for trying to transfer directly to flagged addresses.

So:

1. buy PYUSD in Paypal
2. xfer PYUSD to a "wallet" (Ethereum)
3. xfer PYUSD from the wallet to the vendor

Am I understanding correctly?

Not quite. Ethereum is not a wallet. Exodus or Trustwallet, etc are wallets. Ethereum is both a coin and a network. Think of the networks as airlines. Ethereum and Solana are Delta and United - they transport your crypto coins to their destination (vendors wallet). You pay a “gas” fee to ETH or SOL to transport your coin. So you need to keep a small balance of either or both in your Exodus wallet.

Any advice for where to best educate myself?
Welcome!

If you register a crypto wallet, you will be educated at the same time. Just download one register and get verified. Than just click on buy button and choose a kind of crypto which your supplier accepts. Order the amount you want to buy and at payment state you will also see Paypal under payment options.

Exodus verification is more difficult than others. I was not verified, because I have tried to buy €500 euro USDC Ethereum at my first transaction. It was too much!! But it was not a problem with BYBIT. Got verified within 24 hours and could buy whatever I want. I don't know if it is the same with each wallet? But only problem is its 72 hours timer after buying crypto. You can not do any payments with your crypto value during that time. Your vendor knows how it works and will be patient with you. Expects the problems already before you mention them. So don't worry!

Succes

You can't transfer PYUSD to an external wallet in the UK. I did the same thing a few days ago.
