Hello,
I took my first dose of 1 mg on Tuesday and I noticed some dry eye. Upon doing more research I saw that there's actually research showing it may cause eye issues. I'm not diabetic, but it runs in my dad's side of the family. I do have high myopia meaning I am more likely to have retina detachment "my dad did" just because my vision is so bad. Should I be concerned about reta?

The main eye issue I'm "worried" about is a NAION. It's likely I haven't seen everything related to eye problems on a GLP, but the only major thing that stuck out was NAION.

I've had a detached retina, so did my father... it was no big deal (scleral buckle).

I would think it's a Low to moderate concern overall for serious eye problems from reta in your situation. Dry eye is likely benign dehydration-related. But don't ignore it, With high myopia and a family history, you're in a higher-risk group for retinal issues anyway. If I were you just go get a dilated eye exam soon (ideally with a retina specialist) to baseline your retina status, mention the new dry eye and reta use. They can check for, lattice degeneration, or other myopia-related vulnerabilities. Keep hydrating aggressively and track symptoms. If dry eye eases quickly, that's reassuring.

I just got a full exam a month ago and she said things look great, I'm just at a higher risk of potential detachment because of my high myopia

My 100% guess is that your dry eye or mild vision blur is more commonly tied to dehydration (from GI sides reducing fluid intake) or transient lens changes from metabolic shifts not a direct retinal threat. I'm betting it will go away with hydration over time. That's just my guess. maybe some one else will chime in. I would also poke the internet with key words like keywords like "dry eye," "vision changes," "myopia," "retinal," or "detachment" you'll find others with high myopia or early dryness sharing how it resolved (often hydration/artificial tears) maybe on top of this forum there are other places (reddit) to discus topics specifically for this? good luck and keep updating if needed.

Agreed, the vast majority of the time the dry eyes are from dehydration. Get some electrolytes in your system and refresh eye drops and see if things improve. Of course go see your doctor again if you feel it is needed.

Were you taking a GLP1 before you started Reta? Just curious as I have nothing to add.
I guess I could say when I first started Sema my vision went wobbly, or weirdly out of focus sometimes. It was short-lived and is a common side effect.

I have not! I know sema specifically had more eye issues reported than the others I believe?
