Has anyone here had a seizure because of being on a GLP1? A classmate of mine has been on MJ for I think a couple of years and is in the hospital because she has had a couple of seizures and the medical staff is telling her they think it could be her GLP1. She also stated that her blood pressure was very low and that she was still on blood pressure medication. Seems odd that after all of her weight loss over 200# that she is still on her BP medication. But I do not know her whole health history.

Wow, sorry to hear that. I can tell you from first hand knowledge that Tirz lowered my BP more than any BP medicine I have ever tried. So much that I'm looking forward to getting off my BP med if it keeps going down.

It's the first time that I have heard of a seizure on a GLP-1. Are they taking your classmate off because of that?

Yeah, my BP is down to 115ish over 70ish since I started tirz...I figured it was for exercising more and being 20lbs lighter....I hadn't thought about the tirz...

Seizures do not appear to be common side effect of glp-1 medications on their own. In this study, the authors map benefits and risks of glp-1s using a very large dataset and seizures are specifically mentioned in the abstract as having reduced risk while on glp-1s.

Are you sure it was a seizure and not your classmate passing out? Syncope is very common and might look like a seizure. It is possible to have a seizure due to very low blood pressure, but I think passing out would be more common.

Hypoglycemia might also be pausible and lead to a seizure, especially if your classmate is on a sulfonylurea.

Hope your friend feels better soon!

My Dr. told me that it has something to do with the way Tirz affects the kidneys in a positive way and in particular the way they handle sodium.

GLP may impact electrolytes levels. My sodium dropped near the danger zone at 125-126 mEq/L several months ago when my GLP dose increased to 9mg. I can’t bring it up no matter what I do.
Low sodium (hyponatremia) can cause seizures and even brain swelling, so it really should be monitored.
