Sensitive skin

This is an old post and the only recent post I could find on this so I guess I'm reviving it.

60 yo male, 6'0" currently at goal weight of 170lbs.

After 3 months of 2.5mg weekly Zepbound I switched to 2mg of weekly reta. I had stalled on 2.5 zep and was done paying $300+ so I switched to 2mg weekly reta cold turkey. After 4 weeks and no weight loss (or gain) , I went to 4mg of reta. That shit kicked in during the 2nd week and I achieved my goal weight and the reta just kept on burning to where I have to possibly quit. YAY!

I did notice immediately after upping my dose to 4mg, the skin sensitivity really kicked in. It's not visible but very sensitive to the touch like a light sunburn and the clothes also irritate my skin. It's not a deal breaker if I still was needing reta but it's definitely there. I did try to moisturize more but it's not like dry skin. It's the nerves I guess. Anyways I wanted to post my experience on a related thread.

Sadly...it didn't make ALL of my skin more sensitive. 😀

I suffer the same sunburn feeling on my arms and legs and it is the worst side effect by far. I started at 1mg per week on January 7th 2026 and moved to 2mg and now currently am at 3mg. I remember that the feeling wore off after the 3rd week at 1mg but since then I don't recall being free from it. It makes wearing clothes very annoying, particularly the area on my ankle where my socks rub against. I'm sticking it out though! I started at 261.6 and this morning I was 244.4.

I took my first dose on Sunday gone of 2.5mg. My nipples started to get really sensitive on Wednesday. It has now subsided.

I guess it is a pretty common side effect for some. I had iskin sensitivity on my legs when I was at 6mg. Barely noticeable at 2mg. My son had it so bad, he stopped taking it all together. My daughter has had no side effects at all. Some of us are just lucky.

I had that for a bit. At its worst I was contemplating reducing my dosing schedule because it was pretty bad .. but a week later is was less until gradually I didn't get it at all.

I split dose, I didn’t make a note of it to remember when, but I had some sensitivity (commonly called allodynia here) for a few weeks. It was on the inside of arm when it touched the skin on my chest. It was mild and it me a bit to figure out that it was probably related to Reta. .

It’s since subsided, or at least I haven’t noticed it in a couple-few weeks.

Yep, ive been there. Its not a plesant feeling!

I found it was when I went from 4mg every 6 days, to 5mg every 6 days.

I only lasted a couple of weeks before planning on coming off anyway, so it wasnt the end of the world.

Sunburn is the best explanation ive seen used for it though, thats almost spot on!

I also started experiencing it at 4mg, im dosing every 6 days. hasnt gone away and ive injected 4mg 4 times now. I've also started a major project of a full back and ass tattoo lol in the last 3 weeks which I feel has amplified the pain like 10x

Oh my word I thought I was going nuts lol. Prickly sensation that feels like a very mild sunburn. Also made my “shivers” very intense. It’s not painful or uncomfortable but didn’t even think about it being related to Reta. Just thought it was sensitivity due to skin shrinking after losing weight. Neat lol

Did splitting the dose help with it?

I started reta, i tend to split doses and also start slow. Started at 0.3mg 3 times a week, didnt feel anything first week, increased to 0.5mg 3 times a week, and ended up with allodynia by the end of the week. Didn't realise it was the reta, kept going with it for an additional week. Allodynia got a little worse over the additional week.
When i cut the reta, it went away fully over a week and a bit.

I have tried sema, tirz, and combo of sema/cagri which is what i use if i want a break from food noise nowadays.

I have been on reta six weeks now, started at 2 mg and aa soon as I bumped it up to 4 mg the skin sensitivity was terrible, lasted for three weeks. I think I titrated up too quickly. I just hung in there but its been awful. Finally feeling better, back at 4 mg split twice a week and feeling better.

As soon as I started 3mg’s I got it around my scalp for about 3 days after each pin the last few weeks. Haven’t had it in a while though so I’m knocking on wood

I had skin sensitivity happen as I was increasing tirzepatide doses fairly rapidly but it went away. Now I am taking 5mg of reta as well as 15mg of tirz, I get a mild version of it fairly often , but I definitely cannot increase the dose of reta further as it gets much worse. ( trying to keep off 54% weight loss )
So it can be a temporary effect and go away on that dose after a while or if it is annoying and unpleasant and persistent then reducing the dose is the only sensible option. You said you are at your goal weight so reducing the dose should not be much of an issue, you can always try increasing it again later if weight starts to increase.
