Starting to kick in?

Week four now. Pinned on Monday. Acid reflux woke me up that night. Shit sleep after. Got maybe 3 hours of sleep last night. Been belching for two days. Definitely stocking up on PPI's and antacids.
How long before your body acclimated to Reta?

Famotidine has faster onset for gastric acid reduction if you’re not taking something daily. Omeprazole takes several days of dosing to reach steady state. There is also some association between omeprazole and depression, so that’s a consideration with the anhedonia s/e some GLP1s cause.

Also, I’d consider trialing some simethicone too if you’re bloated? Avoiding fodmap foods might also help with gas if gastroparesis slows gastric transit allowing food to ferment…

You may want to check your heart rate. Some people quit reta because of the stimulation (insomnia and/or elevated heart rate). On the more extreme end, a resting heart rate above 100 would definitely be a good reason to quit.

As you say, splitting the dose may help. Some other advice is to stay hydrated and consider electrolytes, which can help the nerves and heart. Magnesium glycinate is the best form of magnesium for sleep (and lowering heart rate):

A sleep expert on TV once recommended just 1 mg of melatonin a few hours before bed. Haven't tried it myself. Marijuana gummies always work for me for problems sleeping.

By the way, if the heartburn or heartburn-related insomnia comes back, I have slept in a recliner. Sleeping on my left side also helps.
I forgot about that. I've had a few days where my heart rate was over 100 all day. The first day coincided with my father-in-law's passing so, I attributed it to stress. But, I've had it a couple times since. My normal resting heart rate is 61. Which is high for me but, I've been slacking on my cardio.
I've been adding a pillow the first and second night to help with the reflux. I actually have a history with reflux. When I was a kid, I had to put bricks under the headboard to keep me elevated.

I think I'll split the dose this coming week and see how it goes. At the moment though, I don't think my mom would be able to handle these side effects. Especially without any positive results. Might need to have her start on an ultra low dose, like .5mg. Maybe add .5mg every four weeks. Might just not be for her though.

edit: After reading through my log and my posts, I think I probably just escalated my dose too quickly. Probably should've stayed at 2mg for longer.

Similarly, from the Meso forum, regarding tirz vs reta:

"More sleep issues associated with Reta. It raises base metabolic rate, particular through heart stimulation. Newer is not always better, depending on needs."

Tirz is my first love, haha. But it's shocking to see love for tirz at Meso.

True Story. I've never tried Sema or Tirz because I didn't want appetite suppression. And, mom felt like shit on Sema. I hoped Reta would be a possible alternative.

Eating too much and too late will cause problems at night too. Several months in had zero issues.

Almost 24/7 heartburn was a big motivation for me losing weight (and getting on GLPs to lose weight). Once it gets really bad, just drinking a little bit of water is enough to trigger it.

For almost 24/7 heartburn like mine was, I am all for healing the lining with Voqueza (or its Indian generic vonoprazan) for a couple weeks, despite the risk of bacterial overgrowth while on GLPs.

Even after losing 50 pounds and no longer being obese (still overweight), taking too much GLP can bring the heartburn back for me along with other GI sides, but nothing like it was before.

I have been drinking coffee again lately but it's over again for coffee too. Too triggering for me for heartburn. And all the cool kids are still drinking energy drinks, haha.
