Hi everyone,

I’m currently 3 months into my Reta journey and things are going great. I’ve already lost 7 kg (about 15.4 lbs), I’m hitting my calorie and protein goals, and I hit the gym 5 times a week plus cardio. Everything is running perfectly right now.

However, I’m looking ahead and curious about what happens when it’s time to stop taking these injections (whether Retatrutide, Semaglutide, or Tirzepatide). I’d love to hear your experiences on a few specific things:

The Hunger: I often read and hear that the hunger comes back with a vengeance, to the point where you constantly think about food. Was that the case for you? How strong was the urge to eat?

The Exit Strategy: Did you stop cold turkey, or did you taper down the dose / stretch out the days between shots?

Weight Maintenance: How are you doing right now? Have you been able to maintain your weight, or did you experience a rebound?

How long have you been off the medication and how did you manage the transition? Thanks for sharing!

Personally, I jumped on low doss Tirz for maintenance to help me deal with food noise and plan to be on it long term as it substantially improves my quality of life. I think that is probably a good plan; when you are getting close to your goal, start tapering down and try and find the lowest dose that helps you maintain a stable weight. Some people will also space out doses a more as a way of tapering. Switching to Tirz from Reta may also be a thought as it seems to be easier on the system. Triz has been shown to have all kinds of additional health benefits so I don't see a downside. We will likely see the same thing with Reta.

However you decide to do it, I would recommend thinking about a long term plan; People who lose weight on GLPs do have a tendency to put it back on if they just stop. When people come down they tend to lose both fat and muscle. When they go back up, it is usually just added fat, especially visceral fat. So yo-yoing on a GLP tends not to be great for your health.

I'm 5lb from goal (55lbs) and starting to think about this. I'll likely back down slowly from 8mg to 4 then maybe 2mg. That'll just depend. I'll stay on Reta for as long as possible, as I have a bunch.

It just depends on how hungry and food obsessed you were before your loss.

I can take a shit and lose 15 pounds, sounds like you will be just fine.

You won't find much information about stopping because most people on this forum don't plan to stop. Hopefully this shit works out long term LOL.

From what I hear, expect to blow up by around 30lbs if you stop.

I'm not planning to stop Tirz ever, too many other benefits to it besides weight loss. Still a ways to go to goal, but when I get there the 2 main schools of thought seem to be spreading out your doses (I've read some can get to just once a month) or titrating down until I reach the point where I'm no longer stable. The stats odds or against you actually stopping it. Weight regain is a real, demonstrable likelihood.
