This forum has been blessedly USA politics-free today. A sanctuary almost. But I am wondering about how hypothetical tariffs will affect prices from China. I know everyone is hoping that the $/mg will continue to go down but could these ridiculous tariffs shift things the other way? I had been planning to stock my freezer (more) anyway but was content to wait for a good sale. Now I’m almost ready to buy from whoever’s selling asap. Thoughts?

Higher/imposed Tariffs would increase price of anything. Fiscally, the business will determine cost analysis.... the price of doing business. Critical thinking says prices may increase, and be passed on to the consumer. No one is in business to be poor. I guess we'll see QTR1 2025.

**I am not an expert**

Normally tariffs are put in place on specific harmonized commodity codes (HS codes), each harmonized code identifies the specific product being imported.

For instance:
  • Women's wool trousers: 610461
  • Men's cotton trousers: 620342
While it is possible the US could put tariffs on the HS code that used for tirzepatide the gray companies often declare the product to be a different commodity (make up, skin care etc). which would circumvent the tariff. Legitimate import/export companies don't normally do this because it puts their import/export license at risk and they could get fined. I think it is highly unlikely peptides will even make the tariff list.

The peptides are being identified as some sort of product during transit. If the tariffs are blanket covering everything from China, the peps will get caught up. However, they could just label them as something very inexpensive.

I agree that they can assign a low value to the peps.

In the past tariffs have be leveed on specific products or markets, not everything being imported from an entire country. Putting tariffs on everything from China would have a huge negative impact on our economy and drive up inflation.

I'm pretty sure that gray market pharmaceuticals aren't going to be on any tariff lists, considering customs confiscates them if discovered.
He is not a man of sophistication which is reflected in his tariff plan. 60% on *all* products from China, 20% everywhere else, on top of existing tariffs. They’ll have to declare it as something and enforcing this is going to demand a lot more scrutiny of imports. It is a very bad policy which anyone who actually understands it agrees with. It is designed for political purposes and not economic ones. I can’t believe people didn’t bother to actually learn wtf he was talking about before going to the voting booth, it’s a big fucking deal that is going to affect all of you.

So yes, your peptides will cost YOU 60% more since you’re importing them directly from China. Daddy Tracy isn’t paying that for you, you pay it. If you buy from a domestic source they’ll go up less because the seller’s margin isn’t subject to that, just the cost of the goods at the time of import, and domestic seller margins tend to be enormous. For those places you’ll probably see prices rise 10-20%.

This is not some white guys for Harris stuff, this is Trumps stated policy platform.

(Putting my mod hat one for a second, please keep the discussion on the topic of tariffs, or you can pepper in some RFK Jr stuff since that is also relevant to what we are doing here — political topics are tough to keep limited to just the relevant stuff but do your best please and thank you. Let’s also try to contain it to this thread.)

Absolutely hilarious how confidently incorrect you are, tearing everyone else down on something you yourself have failed to grasp.

No. Your peptides aren't going to cost 60% more even if everything has a 60% tariff on it. The simple reason: While the peptides costs you hundreds of dollars, they are stealth shipped in a XXXXXXXX box (can be any number of different items), and declared those items costing a few dollars or tens of dollars at the most. And the 60% will be based on that much, much reduced price.

You realize that enhanced enforcement is going to have to necessarily accompany these tariffs or everyone will just undervalue all shipments? “Just lie” — the nuanced concept you’re saying I have failed to grasp — isn’t going to work when this becomes a key source of revenue for the government any more than it does on your income tax form. Also, that turns you into a smuggler.

Uh huh, they're gonna have ENHANCED enforcement and start seizing packages which would make Tracy declare its' true value officially to customs every time.
Yup. Totally makes sense bro.

Are you daft or what? You are already involved in the illegal importation of pharmaceuticals into the US, you are a smuggler.

If it will be that straightforward to circumvent what is the point of the policy? Sorry friend your special pleading where it works for the stuff you want it to but not the stuff you don’t isn’t consistent with reality. “Rules for thee not for me” only works when you’re a rich billionaire even if one has convinced you that you’re also very, very special.

I'm done with this conversation.

Your grasp on taxes, imports, customs and even just the law, is tenuous at best.

But at least neither one of us is gonna pay that absurd 60% increase for our peptides you have imagined in your head, so, I'd call that a win for both of us, even if you have yet to realize this.

I import as a key part of my job and have paid trump tariffs for years because of when he did this the first time (25% then), so am well aware of how this all works. By all means show me what I said about DJTs broadly stated plans, or about the mechanics of tariffs, that is factually incorrect. I am waiting.

So to say I don’t understand tariffs because i don’t think the government is going to tolerate you picking and choosing which you’d like to pay by selectively lying is just goofy. You’re trying to shoehorn what you want to be true into a situation that is pretty black and white by framing “just lie if it’s peptides in the box, I bet they won’t do any additional enforcement” as a sophisticated argument (which is laughable on its face), and when that didn’t work you just attacked me and walked away.

The tariffs proposed are intended for items China exports that compete with American made products and are intended to protect jobs in the United States and to lower long standing tariffs that China imposes on our exports. Overall, the US has lower tariffs than 185 other countries. I have not seen country specific pricing on a single price sheet, but if someone can prove me wrong please do. To think that a choice by the US will change prices that dramatically on a world wide scale is silly. If these companies want business they will keep the prices low. This is fear mongering and anti-American sentiment.
