This hurt my caveman brain to try and understand all the technical details. I know some of you testing nerds will simplify it for me 😜.

Basic key point, purity is "specific to method used", examples:
  • If you look with your bare eye and dont see clots, according to your eye it will be 100% pure
  • If you look by HPLC-UV, according to such standard test you could see 99.9%
  • If you look by uhplc-ms, it could actually be much lower, for example we recently had one that was actually 87% even though tested 99.x% by standard test.

This may (or may not) help. Compare this to the size of that beautiful puck sitting inside the vial:

Granted that puck is fairly low density so it's not apples to apples, but it should be visually obvious that there's more than 10mg or 25mg of powder inside of that vial.

Also recognize that in chemistry there's no such thing as a magical machine that can detect and identify every single compound, contrary to what television dramas may have led you to believe.

The purity metric is more about verifying that you're getting the compound listed on the label (VS a mix up along the way leading to you getting something entirely different).
