I sometimes hear people complain about difficulties in obtaining syringes. Sometimes those folks are from California.

California laws permits, but does not require, that pharmacies sell syringes without a prescription. There is no maximum number of syringes.

I purchased two one-hundred syringe boxes from Costco in California today. I had to wait for the pharmacist because the techs at Costco are not allowed to dispense syringes. They didn't have the .3 cc syringes - I settled for the .5 cc syringes.

I'm attaching a screenshot of a .pdf document referenced on the California Department of Public Health website.

By the way, the law permitting pharmacists to dispense syringes without a prescription says that the reason for the law is to prevent the spread of diseases by people reusing syringes.

I'll quote verbatim the three paragraphs dealing with access to syringes:

California law allows pharmacies to sell needles and syringes to adults age 18 and older without a prescription. There is no limit on the number of syringes an adult can buy.

People may lawfully possess syringes for personal use in California. There is no age restriction for personal possession. Also, there are no limits on the number of syringes a person can have.

Pharmacies are not required to sell syringes without a prescription and pharmacists can choose how many syringes to sell to a customer.

Empty laundry detergent bottles and protein powder containers are useful for storing used needles.
