Here is a 2006 study on topical aminophylline cream used on the waist to spot-reduce fat in...well, the waist: https://dom-pubs.pericles-prod.literatumonline.com/doi/10.1111/j.1463-1326.2006.00600.x. These are their results:

The reduction in waist circumference was 11 ± 1.0 cm in the aminophylline cream group and 5.0 ± 0.6 cm in the control group (p < 0.001). The reduction in waist circumference was significant for both women and men, but the women lost significantly more waist girth.

I did a cursory search on this forum before posting and only a few people have talked about it before; including milos, who posted this systemic review of aminophylline, which I found very interesting: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9978326/. It concludes:

Aminophylline topical formulation offers a safe, effective, and much less invasive alternative to cosmetic surgery for the localized reduction of fat. Conducting further trials to compare the efficacy of different concentration of aminophylline is suggested for future works, as well as evaluating the efficacy of other xanthines in local fat burning.

So, quite promising. I find aminophylline to closely align with my goals since I don't really want to lose weight so much as move the fat around (and obviously, don't want to lose muscle). Aminophylline seems a bit tough to get ahold of, but when/if I do, I'd probably experiment with how it affects fat while eating at maintenance, since most of the studies on aminophylline are on people who are actively losing weight & are women.
