Trump offers Ozempic for $150

It looks like he claimed there was a deal to make ozempic cost $150, but there isn't, at least not yet.

I have mixed feelings about the prices falling. Obviously I want more people to be able to afford these drugs. But without huge profit margins, it's not clear we'll get the same level of innovation we've come to expect. Yes, retatrutide and tirzepatide are awesome, but they cost billions to develop, and if we want more innovation like that, there needs to be billions more for the taking.

I think the best outcome would be that the government doesn't negotiate any such deal, Americans keep paying through the nose for few more years for peptides, and new entrants like Boehringer Ingelheim, Roche, and Viking add competitive pressure so the prices of sema, tirz, and eventually reta are forced down. Ozempic list won't fall to $150, but more PBMs/policies will cover it with reasonable copay.

Having said that, if Trump makes ozempic $150, Vance will be president through 2036.

But the shitty part is, these companies make back their R&D investment in a year, if not sooner. They still charge up the ass for it. So they have zero sympathy from me.

Oh, I'm not talking about sympathy for the companies. I have no more sympathy for them than I do for any other non-sentient entity.

I'm just saying I want them or whoever else to keep pouring billions into weight loss/diabetes drug development, because these drugs could get even awesomer. So I'm in favor or whatever accomplishes that. If that's socialist queer space anarchism, fine. If it's lining the pockets of JP Moneybags, also fine. I just want cool drugs.

For every drug brought to market 10 to 20 are not. You have to pay for all the R&D with the winners. It's that simple, it's not greed it's business.
There is no free lunch.

It doesn’t look like there’s actually any confirmed deal to make Ozempic $150 — that seems to be more rumor than reality for now.

I get the mixed feelings about prices dropping. On one hand, lower costs would make these meds accessible to so many more people. On the other, it’s true that big profit margins often drive continued investment and innovation — though a lot of that money also goes into marketing and shareholder returns, not just research.

Realistically, the prices will probably come down as more competitors like Boehringer, Roche, and Viking bring their own GLP-1 and GIP/GLP-1 drugs to market. That’s usually how it happens — competition, not sudden deals.

And the last line made me laugh — if anyone actually managed to make Ozempic $150 overnight, they’d probably win every election from here to eternity. 😄

If true, that would be great. But please take everything he says with a grain of salt. He also promised cheaper groceries on “day one” of his presidency, and ten months later they’re higher than ever. This is important:

A reporter, Max Bayer of Endpoints News, made the connection, asking later if Trump was referring to bringing weight-loss drugs down to $150. The president confirmed he was “referring to Ozempic, or the fat-loss drug … they’ll be much lower.”

At that point, Dr. Oz started to look uncomfortable, stepping up to the podium with a subtle shaking of his head.

“We have not negotiated those yet,” Oz clarified. “We’re going to be rolling these out over time.”

When they succeed in creating a blockbuster drug (something that usually doesn't happen), then they make up their research and development costs quickly. They often lose money on drugs that either are not approved or do get approved but then don't sell.

Trump's greatness is beyond our earthly ability to comprehend.

There is no grain of salt. The man is full of shit. He lies constantly. Why would he change? His lies and deceit brought him to the white house and made him a billionaire. Lying works for him because his supporters are too stupid to know better or too malicious to care.

Your comment will get deleted (censored) in a jiffy, but I agree with you. (My comment will get deleted, too, I reckon.)
