USDT/USDC - help

I’m new the crypto thing as well. I saw a post that said buy on your cashapp then transfer it to an Exodus wallet then send it to the seller. You can also buy USDT on Exodus directly . When I try to buy USDC directly it only gives me the option to pay through my robinhood account.

First I've heard of a vendor that takes crypto but not btc.... haven't seen a vendor here that doesn't but I don't follow all of them.

In theory it sounds easy but be prepared for a few frustrations along the way. I just managed to set up Exodus, buy pyusd with PayPal funds, then had to buy SOL for gas (fees) through MoonPay. Whole thing took about an hour including the verification steps on PayPal, MoonPay and Exodus.

Now I’m kicking myself for not putting more money in. Just the thought of trying to remember what I did and trying to repeat it is exhausting 😆
 
Here is a post I wrote in June about my experience. Note the lag time between buying bitcoin and being able to transfer it to exodus. This lag was only for my first transaction. I've done a couple more after the first one.

My very recent noob (first time) crypto experience.

Opened up a Coinbase Account (not coinbase wallet) and used a bank transfer to purchase Bitcoin. The Bitcoin was immediately in my Coinbase account and I could freely trade it within the account if I wanted. But there was a 7 day hold so I couldn't transfer any of my Bitcoin out of the account (to make a purchase). This hold was lifted in exactly 7 days.

While waiting for the above hold to clear I opened up an Exodus Wallet account. After the above 7-day hold lifted I was able to transfer some Bitcoin from my Coinbase account to Exodus. I then sent Bitcoin from Exodus to a vendor to make a purchase. Very painless.

Next I decided I should have some more funds on-hand in my Coinbase wallet for future purchases. I did another bank transfer and these funds were immediately available to trade or transfer out. No more Holds.

It was a great learning experience.
 
I ended up buying BTC in paypal and then transferring it to their wallet from there. Sadly it was SRY and now I’m praying they come back online. Praying I’m not out the money I paid after all that hassle!

And whatever you do - don't trust to simply buy USDT or USDC - - for real - - Make sure that you know exactly which NETWORK the vendor wants it on - - that matters 1000% and was a very expensive learning curve for me (could be USDC-ETH vs USDC-SOL - or something entirely different) AND if you blindly/naively buy it and think that it will be easy to transition it from one to the other later - you are in for a sh*t show and P.I.T.A. - especially Tron network - incredibly expensive fees.

BTC’s processing fees are high and transaction speed is a bit slow. But if they are only accepting stablecoinz, that sounds like they want to do a quick fiat conversion.

Be mindful of the network when using stablecoins.

That just happened to me! I bought USPY, then swapped it to USDT-sol and was so pleased with how smart I was and how well I followed directions. Then I looked up the vendor I like, and saw that they take USDT-TRC20, and just spent an hour trying to figure out how to convert it. ultimately decided that that ten bucks can just be left in my wallet and used for the other vendor I like that takes it. Now I'm working out how to get USDT-TRC20, which seems to be Tron, so I'll know how to do THAT. I have very little idea what I'm doing, but I expect I'll understand it more soon.

Well to be honest it is all verry tricky and a mistake is easily made.

There are different networks via wich you can send crypto. And each network has a different wallet adres.

So if someone has a wallet on the tron network. And you want to send usdt, you have to make sure you send your usdt over the trc20(TRON) network. If you select the wrong network, then the funds will probably be lost.
 
Think of it like paying with a credit card. There are different card networks, but they all spend US dollars.

If you want to spend your money and the vendor only takes visa(Solana) and Mastercard(Ethereum), don't bring your American Express(Tron) card.

Make sure you know what network you need before making your crypto purchase!

The main frustration I've been having with the Coinbase-to-Exodus process is the seven day hold before my funds are released for transfer. They show up right away in my Coinbase assets, but aren't available for transfer. It wasn't just for the first transaction for me. I'm trying to find a way to get funds into Exodus in a timely manner.

Cant stand Coinbase for that reason. Basically you'll need to find another exchange that moves funds immediately. I personally use Crypto.com. I deposit cash, purchase crypto then send it wherever. Take a few minutes at the most.
