We cut cable television some time ago... last year I didn't watch the Super Bowl because of it. I did buy some HD antennas from Amazon that I returned because they were garbage.
Then I saw a video from Rinoa's Auspicious Travails on how easy it is to just make an antenna specific to a channel by cutting to pieces of wire to specific lengths.
Brilliant. So I took a stubby piece of coax cable. Slapped a 14" piece of straight wire on to both the center conductor and the braided end. I couldn't get my solder to stick to the aluminum shield wire so I just used one of my Kuject heat shrinks with a solder band in the middle of it.
I stuck this stubby piece of coax into my telly and did a channel scan and would you look at that? I get Fox!
So then I went down this rabbit hole of building an antenna that captures both VHF and UHF broadcast signals. You know, so I can watch the Grammys... catch up with all my televangelists, and watch some old westerns on GRiT.
This guy delivers both on comedy gold and what appears to be a great design. I don't think my wife will let me install this one indoors though. So I'll probably just stick to separate dipole antennas for certain bands and call it a day.
But then I thought maybe ChatGPT could design a sweet easy-to-build antenna to get all the channels....
Here is ChatGPT's antenna design.
WTF?
