I would venture a guess that he was spinning a yarn for reason quoted above.
Perhaps drawing from the huge drama thread caused The Fisherman Guy who kept rage baiting about re-using needles.

It was a thread which wouldn't die and got resurrected for more than 5 months. Fisherman Dude got more and more aggressive/obnoxious and eventually got himself banned. I'm not sure I ought to link to it here but for those curious, search needle safety.

I was bored and had major insomnia last night and went to that Fisherman thread…whoo! That was a wild ride of weirdness…and it spanned months!
