Your thoughts on negotiating pricing with vendors

Wondering what your thoughts are on negotiating pricing with vendors.

I was able to get a $123 discount with a vendor this morning by sending a screen shot of pricing I had received from another vendor - of course, I didn't include any of the other vendor's info in my screen shot - just the pricing I had received (see image below). Without question, this vendor lowered his price to beat out the other vendor.

Because I'm a worrier and new to this, I can't help but feel like it's going to bite me in the butt.

Just wondering if this is commonplace. Thanks in advance.

IMO, negotiating and price matching are a little bit different. Price matching puts you in a position of leverage. Negotiating may just make you seem entitled. I have done the price matching thing a few times so I could order multiple products from a single vendor, rather than paying 3 separate shipping fees.

I find you can negotiate if you do a certain volume of orders. I’m sure each rep makes a percentage point of your order, so the more you order the more room you have for negotiation.

I would worry that I ended up with less product than I wanted. Like I would be sent 5mg vials instead of the 10mg vials I ordered.

I was quoted $65 for shipping. I said, "I thought orders over $1k had free shipping." "Ok. Free shipping." Sometimes you just have to ask. In this case I was only asking for something already advertised, but you have to keep on it.

I was buying some DISP10. Grey I was buying from no longer had DISP10 and only DISP15. It was a decent amount more per MG than the 10. I checked price at one other place and it was cheaper, but not cheap enough to want to place two separate orders. All I said was "I think I can get the DISP cheaper somewhere else. Any chance you can do a little discount on it?" Didn't tell them the price or where from. Within a minute they responded "Would a discounted price of $1180, do you think its ok?"
