I recently started taking Reta, and I’m noticing a significant increase in hunger, specifically intense cravings for sweets.
This is unusual for me because I also take Adderall, which typically suppresses my appetite.
Additionally, I am on Keppra and Lamotrigine. Does anyone have advice on managing these cravings or insight into how these medications might be interacting?
There is a known interaction between GLP drugs and adderall, although it may not be listed as an interaction , it has been seen in animal studies. In the same way that GLP's make food less rewarding , they can reduce the effect of stimulants by direct action on the relevant brain cells.
Most interactions with GLP drugs are caused by slowing down absorption of other drugs by slowed gastric emptying.
I have not seen it mentioned for reta, but it is a GLP-1 agonist effect so should apply.
I noticed that as soon as I started taking ozempic I could no longer feel I had taken my dose of dexamphetamine, and tirzepatide has the same effect, effectively lowers the dose.
You mention you are taking it for possible mental benefits so hopefully this effect is not a big issue.
That being said the doses of reta you describe taking are so microscopic they may not be enough to do anything much. And might be placebo effects, hard to say.
But if it is reducing the effect of adderall, that could explain the increased sweet hunger. And people do sometimes complain about this happening when starting reta, due to the glucagon agonism, but it usually goes away after a while.
Not familiar with Keppra so cannot comment on if it has interactions, never heard of there being issues with lamotrigine. But if you are not sure look it up , it is the kind of thing that must always be checked if starting a new drug, and usually gets done by your doctor or their computer program, there are plenty of online resources or ask chatgpt, it's pharmacology is pretty good.
