Hi everyone,

I’m currently 3 months into my Reta journey and things are going great. I’ve already lost 7 kg (about 15.4 lbs), I’m hitting my calorie and protein goals, and I hit the gym 5 times a week plus cardio. Everything is running perfectly right now.

However, I’m looking ahead and curious about what happens when it’s time to stop taking these injections (whether Retatrutide, Semaglutide, or Tirzepatide). I’d love to hear your experiences on a few specific things:

The Hunger: I often read and hear that the hunger comes back with a vengeance, to the point where you constantly think about food. Was that the case for you? How strong was the urge to eat?

The Exit Strategy: Did you stop cold turkey, or did you taper down the dose / stretch out the days between shots?

Weight Maintenance: How are you doing right now? Have you been able to maintain your weight, or did you experience a rebound?

How long have you been off the medication and how did you manage the transition? Thanks for sharing!

Personally, I jumped on low doss Tirz for maintenance to help me deal with food noise and plan to be on it long term as it substantially improves my quality of life. I think that is probably a good plan; when you are getting close to your goal, start tapering down and try and find the lowest dose that helps you maintain a stable weight. Some people will also space out doses a more as a way of tapering. Switching to Tirz from Reta may also be a thought as it seems to be easier on the system. Triz has been shown to have all kinds of additional health benefits so I don't see a downside. We will likely see the same thing with Reta.

However you decide to do it, I would recommend thinking about a long term plan; People who lose weight on GLPs do have a tendency to put it back on if they just stop. When people come down they tend to lose both fat and muscle. When they go back up, it is usually just added fat, especially visceral fat. So yo-yoing on a GLP tends not to be great for your health.

I'm 5lb from goal (55lbs) and starting to think about this. I'll likely back down slowly from 8mg to 4 then maybe 2mg. That'll just depend. I'll stay on Reta for as long as possible, as I have a bunch.

You won't find much information about stopping because most people on this forum don't plan to stop. Hopefully this shit works out long term LOL.

From what I hear, expect to blow up by around 30lbs if you stop.

I'm not planning to stop Tirz ever, too many other benefits to it besides weight loss. Still a ways to go to goal, but when I get there the 2 main schools of thought seem to be spreading out your doses (I've read some can get to just once a month) or titrating down until I reach the point where I'm no longer stable. The studies show odds are against you actually stopping it. Weight regain is a real, demonstrable likelihood.

So, that means you're full of it?💩 🤣 🤣
I WAS full of it, then I took a 15 pound 💩 and feel soooooo much better. I can only imagine just having to lose 15 pounds, could do that in my sleep with my eyes closed. OP doesnt seem to have an out of control unhealthy relationship with food so id imagine his/her shits are prolly only 1/4 pound or so.

titrate as slowly as possible
hunger will be back with vengeance
its gonna hit like a freaking truck
just be ready for it

100%
The stats on maintaining weight loss after withdrawing from GLPs are every bit as bad as other diet methods. Been there, done that. Hopefully it works out that long term maintenance dosing is as healthy as it appears now. And hopefully the pipeline for reasonably priced access stays open.

I am on 15mg Tirz for the last 6 months. That is my maintenance plan to this point. Also added 1 mg Eloralintide. These kits aren't gonna use themselves. 😉

That's my issue, all the stuff I have. I'll still be on 8mg for roughly 5lbs, but my wife has been on 8mg and says nothing is happening anymore. I'm still losing 1-2lbs/week, so I know it's not the Reta. Problem is, she refuses to step on a scale just to keep track, so I have no way to tell what's up. Trust me, I guarantee she hasn't and will not weigh herself. She's going to 9mg next, as we've been on 8 for 5 weeks.

The only people that I know who've successfully quit using GLPs were only a little overweight due to shit habits and GLP use helped them break bad habits.

All the studies I have seen have shown weight regain close to starting point after cessation. And continuing dose kept weight off for like 80 percent of people so even with continued GLP use, close to 20 percent regained some weight.

My question is why would one want to get off GLPs? Every day they are finding more benefits. Insulin sensitivity that has too many positive down stream effects, lower inflammation, and recently I believe double the survival rates of certain cancers. With grey, super affordable.

Weight Maintenance: How are you doing right now? Have you been able to maintain your weight, or did you experience a rebound?
Hard to answer as GLP's finally allowed me to bulk and cut instead of past binges that gain bad weight then cut to get back in shape, and repeat. You're most primed to gain muscle after a cut. Maintenance is usually only a small phase after bulking for me.

My thought was that I would taper to lower dose, but seems like I need current dose to maintain.
