Been on Tirz for 7 months, lost 50 lbs, 35 to go. But my hair won't stop falling out in alarming amounts since ~December. The only reason it's not noticeable right away is that I had a TON of hair to start. But now when I gather into a pony tail, the volume is noticeably MUCH thinner. I'm certain it's from Tirz, but to compound the problem, I'm 47 and also in perimenopause, so that is not helping.

It just won't stop falling out. Like a tribble's worth of hair comes out every time I shower, clogs the drain if I don't pull it out into the trash as I go. It's not only gross, but it's starting to freak me out. I've got expensive-ass vitamins (Nutrafol) ordered, started adding bovine collagen peptides to my coffee, trying to prioritize my daily protein. I take the GLOW protocol 5x/week. And I just started low-dose estrogen patches (.025 mc 2x/wk) and compounded testosterone cream (.5gram 1x/wk) from my menopause specialist.

Anyone tried anything that works?

I wanted to stay away from oral or topical minoxidil because I heard that once you start, you need to take it indefinitely and that even more shedding will happen at the beginning.

I'm in a similar boat. Did a bunch of research. I take a hair/nails biotin vitamin along with my high quality daily, but most of the solutions seem like snake-oil to me. Now that I'm out of the 'latest and greatest diet plan' game I've been playing for the last 20 years, I'd like to decline being taken advantage of further. Same thing with loose skin - the solution seems to be time (maybe) and surgery. My plan is to embrace the entire spectrum of the 'gifts' of this medicine and spend my money on clothes and accessories to focus on the positive.

Yup, CldFront has it right. No sense fighting it. And BTW, that Tribble reference made me snort my tea into my nose. — No fair being so funny.

I am going Biotin/Rosemary Oil/and I did a couple of months of BPC157 with GHK-Cu subq and topical, but got busy and can’t keep current with all of it. Began Tirz May, dropped 50+, hair loss at six/nine months and the frightening handful of hair after shampooing is JUST starting to slow down now as I begin messing about with maintenance. I am too happy that my Ursula the Sea Witch swimsuit no longer fits and falls off me to worry about the loose skin/hair loss. However, I am sucking up collagen supplements when I remember . . . I am going to focus on getting fit and muscle tone back before I worry about the hair/skin issues.

Hi. Yes. This is me 😞 I've been on mounjaro for 10 months. Hair was rather thin to start with due to ageing. Really bad now. Been using biotin and rosemary oil. Bought a scalp massager in desperation. Eating tons of protein and bloods are excellent. So...... I've just (5 minutes ago)ordered a hair topper!

I'm deep down the rabbit hole of red light treatments. For the scalp but also the skin on my neck is going real wonky from the weight loss. It's starting to look like my mom's. She's almost 70. I'm only 47 dammit!

You know, before, I would have sworn up and down that I was not a vain person, but even so I got accustomed to seeing a certain set of constants in the mirror. I may never have been a conventionally pretty person and I accepted that. But being made to feel even uglier than that is just some horse shit. Like I was ok being a 4, that was the cards I was dealt, but slowly turning into a 1 is just a shade too far!

Hotdog - the scalp massager I'm using has red light treatment as it scratches my scalp! It has not worked , however I have a facial wand with red light that I use on my neck and it has made a noticeable difference with the new wrinkles following weight loss.

Red light therapy is very interesting. It sounded like pure snake oil when I heard about it, but I was surprised to see there was real science behind it.

I have not used it for hair -- there is no hope for this balding old dude -- but it has been good for my skin and some aches and pains.

I have had good luck with inexpensive red light panels. Amazon often has devices with giant discounts -- from no-name sellers that will probably be gone soon -- but all this stuff is made in the same few factories so if you are smart and lucky, sometimes you can get a great deal. I've gotten a quality red light panel for as little as $20. But you need to have the means to test the devices, or find trustworthy reviews, to know what you are getting.

If you pursue red light therapy please be careful about what you buy. There are good deals out there, but there are also overpriced items plus absolute garbage that I wouldn't take for free.

As with any treatment you need to figure out the right dose too, which depends on the power of the device, distance, and what you are trying to treat. I can recommend further reading if anyone is interested. Or start a new thread and holler for me.

With that sense of humor you are gorgeous!!

I bought the device from Amazon in UK. Only cost £30. Afraid I'm a techno idiot and have never worked out how to send a link 🥴

I’m 41 mine took almost a year then fell out like crazy. As well a dry brittle and Breaking so that was fun,.. I started taking a multi vitamin, upped how much I was eating, added in Wild yam cream (also perimenopausal), 5% minoxidil, micro needle weekly and baby the hair I have it’s looking so much better I cut it chin length since I have a ton of short hair where it’s coming back it finally looks healthy again.

You're right and you've reminded me, I absolutely need to get a haircut. I need a good professional to cut off the last 3-4 inches of damaged hair and shape what's left according to its new density and texture.

people who do weight loss surgeries get this as well and generally the advice is to make sure you are getting enough protein and I think calcium

As a person who had lost and regained hundreds of pounds over the past 40 years, my experience is that it’s the weight loss—not the Tirz—that causes hair loss. Then right about the time some shill relieves you of hundreds of dollars for their “cure,” the situation will begin to resolve itself. And the remedy will take the credit, but I promise you, this is just what happens when we lose a significant amount of weight.

As someone who has starved themselves to a very low body fat, and lost quite a bit of hair doing this:

1. Low to no estrogen = hair loss. If you are in an extreme deficit, your body might not be producing hormones properly.
2. Lack of nutrition = hair loss.

I agree with Ms_Ery, it's a side effect of the weight loss, not Tirz.

I assumed so too (the ultimate irony is I have a degree in Nutritional Science). But then I read multiple accounts of people who took Tirz for months and did not lose any weight, but did lose their hair and other side effects. So that makes me think there are other mechanisms at work here. Probably involving hormones, as I also know estrogen and testosterone precursors (DHEA) have effects on hair loss. No studies on that yet, of course, as it's not one of the more important side effects of this med, but just a reminder that there's a lot we don't know yet about how these drugs work.

Have you had blood work done to check your hormone levels or seen any blood work results?

Another possibility is tirz could lower nutrition absorption rates. Not sure if that has been studied at all.

Also, I lost 40 lbs over 4 months before, in order to have my son via IVF, and I never even went through telogen effluvium after pregnancy.
And yes, I've had blood work on my hormone levels via my menopause doctor, they're at expected lowish levels for my age, and had other low estrogen symptoms for years before Tirz. Hair loss was never one of them.

Interesting. I have heard anecdotally that glps cause diaherria through a lack of proper fats digestion. Do you have diaherria? Any nutrients in fats you are aware of that are involved in hair growth / maintenance?

Tirz never caused diarrhea for me, though when I started metformin, that caused loose stools. My endocrinologist who Rx'd it (and Zepbound) told me metformin is known to cause B12 deficiency, so I supplement with sublingual methylated B12.

We're in the middle of doing more in-depth blood work including Ferritin and several more detailed thyroid values (t3, t4, reverse t3 and TPO antibodies) to figure out my fatigue. I told him fatigue and hair loss was a common side effect reported by lots of people on Tirz, and even he seemed like he didn't know much about it. We're educating the doctors with our own experiences!

Oh wow, I feel this. I’m on Tirz too and losing hair like crazy. My ponytail is half what it was! 😩 I’m upping protein, adding collagen, and started iron + biotin hoping it helps. Also hesitant about minoxidil but considering rosemary oil. If you find something that works, please share!

Well I'm still shedding a lot more than normal and I have a lot less hair, but it's looking better. I've been on the Nutrafol vitamins for older women for about 5-6 weeks and the thin texture of my hair seems better (like at the temples/top crown area), like it's filling out with a little growth.

I've also been taking collagen powder for ~6-7 weeks and I could tell right away my nails grew longer and stronger, they'd always chip and break before. Maybe it has some effect on my hair too but hard to tell. Trying to increase protein with those 26g and 42g protein shakes from Fairlife, also eating more cottage cheese and yogurt. But I hate tracking anything so I'm estimating I'm adding ~30-50g daily more than before.

The funny part about having a lot less hair than before is my natural waves and curls are coming out. Before, I had so much hair and it was so dense that the sheer weight of it just made it frizzy and wiry. Like the extra ventilation lets the curls spring to life instead of being squashed by a heavy mat of hair.

I lost about a 1/3 of my hair. I've been on GLP1s/ GIPs for 4 years now, currently maintenance. With time the shredding will stop and you will get back most of your hair. What helped me most, which I read your doing is- collagen & protein, vitamins (mainly zinc, D+K2 and selenium- alternating days for selenium). I also did Rogaine for a year, I had a lot of growth the 6 months in, but it gave me chest pain and headaches, hated it. I added GHK- Cu injections (4 months ago) for when I quit Rogaine out of fear of losing even more hair, and it worked because I have an TON of little baby hairs sprouting everywhere and I did not have crazy hairl0ss stopping the Rogaine. I've had friend that take oral Minoxidil meds and they love it.

Tirz, perimenopause, and this hair loss is no joke! I’ve got four kids and I swear I’m shedding more than the dog. You’re doing all the right things, but check your iron and ferritin. Low levels can make it worse.

Rosemary oil might help, and while Minoxidil freaks me out too, a lot of women swear by it.

Hoping this shed slows down soon for both of us! 💖

Ugh, I feel you. Tirz plus perimenopause is a brutal combo for hair loss. You’re doing all the right things so hopefully it levels out soon. Maybe try red light therapy, or check your ferritin levels? I get avoiding minoxidil but some microdose to skip the big shed. Hang in there, sending good hair vibes! 💛

Well my labs showed Ferritin was normal (128 ng/mL). Right in the middle of the normal range.

My iron was normal too, my % saturation was even high (46%) just over the cut-off of normal range (16-45%). So I don't think there's a problem there, and maybe I don't need more protein, just more calories?

I don't see my endocrinologist until June, but on paper all my labs seem normal.

One more thing I threw at my hair situation: My stylist gave me a B3 treatment (stands for Brazilian bond builder). My hair is softer, less frizzy and looks a little better.

I didn't real any previous replies, but the first step is making sure you are getting sufficient iron

I started GLOW and I have a appointment Wed with a dermatologist to get oral Minoxidol. I'm not playing around. I have one foot in the grave and don't have time for any of this nonsense. Love my weight loss though. My blood work is good. Taking Nutrafol also.
Good for you, taking the bull by the horns. Let us know how it works for you. How long have you been on the Nutrafol vitamins?

2 weeks in on Nutrafol.
I am 55 and have dealt with alopecia since my early 30's. Dermatologist did a biopsy to confirm diagnosis. I have used Nioxin shampoo and conditioner off and on for years. I do believe it is smart to rotate shampoos as my hair can become limp. Though I do not do this enough, I know massaging your head is very important to provide more blood flow. Minoxidil was too strong for my scalp. My scalp was bright red and hurt. Long story short I could not continue. I have had another major shed and my new dermatologist suggested the foam version of Minoxidil. It is much more gentle on your scalp. I also added Nutrifol for three months. Well, $75 a month is too much for me and I did not see results so I changed to Weem hair gummies at $25 a month. I also do red light from time to time. I have learned a lot about red light with my Body Contouring business. Watch for Amazon's Prime Sale and you can buy red light equipment at a great price. For me, I feel Weem is helping me better than Nutrifol (compare ingredients) and I like the price. I recently added essential oils into my regimen. (I do not have feedback on that yet.)

I am really excited to try the cocktail of GHK-Cu and BPC-157. I have not ordered yet but it's on my "to do list".

I swear by ghk cu and bpc-157(injection). I take it 5 days a week. It has been really helping me. I also take, One A Day complete multivitamin (zinc, folate, biotin, 1.35mg copper, plus others)and love them! I hope that you find something that truly helps you too!

I am on sema (over 3 years) and last June or July my hair (at 53) started coming out like crazy. I always had the absolute thickest hair. I was also already on BHRT.. so she started doing bloodwork for my thyroid. I am on the lowest dose of T3 in the morning and T4 at night and I believe it has stopped. This all took a while to figure out as, you can see, I have a lot going on. I cried for days and days and days.... until I realized how much easier it was to actually dry my hair.

I still hate it... and I do KLOW, topical minoxidil, collagen, protein... you name it. It may be growing back, as I can see "baby hairs" but is has been the absolutely most depressing this about getting older.

Thank you for the reminder... I do need a good haircut. Hang in there. You are definitely not alone. I started crying, again, reading this... 💖

Nutrient deficiencies and malnutrition are a huge component of hair loss. The tirzepatide isn't the direct cause of your hair loss. Increase your protein and make sure you don't have any other deficiencies.

Are you taking it separately?

Yes, I am. I have a vial ghk cu and a vial of bpc-157. I'm a 54 yr old female and having my hair thin out so much, really makes me feel down. My hair looks more lively now (shiny and bouncy)and I'm getting baby hairs too, and the hair looks and feels a little thicker. I'm really happy with it. 👍

I lost a good bit of my hair too. I’ve been taking Nutrafol for a couple of months and haven’t seen much improvement. I feel that my hair is less brittle but I don’t know if the vitamins could have helped that. I am thinking about trying red light therapy.

Red light therapy? I'm not familiar with it. I'm getting curious now. I'm going to have to look it up. It's great losing weight, but surely sucks with these hair issues.

Right light therapy was/is considered bunk by many but recent research has showed some positive correlation.

Do a “How To” on micro needling! I take daily Vitamin E, Glutathione, Ascorbic Acid and Monixidil+Finesteride. One cool trick I can share with folks is I started taking daily Polybcom shots with Vitamin B1 (Thiamine), Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin), Vitamin B3 (Niacin), Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid), Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine), Vitamin B7 (Biotin), Vitamin B9 (Folic Acid), and Vitamin B12.

I shit you not. The B5 is reversing my gray hair.

The B supplements truly do help. The Women's One A Day(6 key vital functions) has many of the essential complexes. Between the supplements and the ghk cu, it's really worth a try. I believe what @AndyPanda is saying about the reversing of the gray hair. They really are on to something 👍
