How exactly do group buys work? Someone buys a ton then sends it out to each person involved?

Pretty much. You pay in advance to the vendor, wait for MOQ to be met, wait a long time for shipment, then pray said vendor doesn't run away with your money. Once stock eventually arrives, pray the vendor sends you what you ordered.

Me? I'll never do one, as I don't know these people, nor do I trust them. Plus I don't like waiting...no matter how good the prices may be. Hard pass.

Forum edited my word 0ganizer to vendor for some reason. You don't pay the vendor, you pay a person who started the GB.

Because 99% of "group buys" advertised are not group buys but VENDOR promotions. The sooner people realize this the better.

A true group buy is more like you and a bunch of neighbors getting together to get a great price on new fences, with Mary on the corner helping organize everything and collect the funds. If Mary sells fences for a living, she's a VENDOR and it's not a group buy.

Gotcha. The ones I've seen have been individuals starting it, and going to a specific vendor for the product. I know you know more about this than me, just stated that my word changed and wasn't sure why. 😊

Even the ones starting as group buys seem to eventually just morph into becoming vendors. It starts with buying extra for the gb and selling it after the gb at a premium because it’s “on hand” with no wait and morphs into them just buying how much they think they can sell and keeping inventory.

I’m not sure it’s a bad thing. I prefer to buy from the us anyway

Yes, it's very common for someone who puts together genuine group buys to transition into becoming a vendor after one or two successful buys. In fact I'd say it's pretty much the norm.

I don't have an issue with it as long as they are honest about their advertising and call it what it is: a promotion.
